When I have less than 10 minutes to shave as I did this morning I grab my slant. Otherwise I enjoy the satisfaction of a relaxing straight shave.

I enjoy my narrow TI travel strop when on a trip. It's reliable and avoids the need to find a good anchor for a hanging strop in a hotel bathroom. At home, however, I still prefer my hanging strops.

I have found that passing my wet hands over a bar of alum keeps my hands tacky and avoids slippage. I find the Merkur slant is a great razor as is the Futur. Both are much more aggressive than my Gillette TTOs. The size of the Slant makes it easier to manipulate however. Paul , do you know how many ...

Sometimes, we have to revisit our decisions to convince ourselves we were right the first times. Clearly, the price of Fusions is absurd for regular use and the risk of ingrown hairs greatly increases. As I mentioned above, a Fusion or mach 3 works for me on a week-end where air travel is involved. ...

Red IPs and a Slant

I dropped a Red Personna in my Slant this morning. What a great combination. the shave was very close and comfortable. I found the Reds to be great in my Futur as well. These blades are true value.

Last week, I took a trip to Dallas and packed a Fusion as I using carry-on luggage only. The Fusion gives me a smooth and close shave, however, repeated use leads to in-grown hairs. Additionally, the price of the cartridges is absurd. DE shaving is no brainer by comparison. My straights would be a b...

Today's third consecutive shave was as close as the first. I suspect the blade is good for at least two more shaves. I set the Futur to 4 yesterday and returned it to 3 this morning. The shave results were the same. The difference was feeing the edge more at 4. A setting at 3 with my dark dense bear...

Red Personnas

Chris1978 sent me a few packs of these last November. They did not work for him. This morning, in one of my breaks from straight shaving, I loaded one into my Futur set at 3 and gave it go. It was one of the smoothest shaves I have experienced and it was BBS after my normal three passes (W,X and ATG...

As has been said due to manufacturing techniques, sharpening efforts will be sub-optimal. The best solution is get a straight razor( two would be optimal for blade rest) which you can use for the rest of your life.

I can get a great shave with either a foil or rotary head electric. However by early afternoon, it looks like I need to shave again. Additionally as has been mentioned already, my face does not feel invigorated as it does after either a straight or a DE shave. That said, elcetrics are useful when tr...

Harris is my favorite soap. Whichever scent I use I get a rich, long lasting lather. I also use non-tallows such as Trumpers but I think Harris is slicker. MWF gives it a good run but lacks the scent options.
