It is interesting that there seems to be a lot of Merkur users so far. -- themba
I have several Merkurs, but for me it's the Gillette Slim Handle Adjustable (on 4).

I have the 23mm silvertip 177 and never thought it too big (except when it wouldn't fit in the sample jar of Nancy Boy shave cream). I face lather and it's just that much more soft decadence that covers my face when lathering! It works great for me with creams - produces a lot of lather quickly. It'...

Same brush (Shavemac 177) and razor blade brand (IP) everyday. Rotate through the same 3 razors (all vintage Gillettes) out of my at least 20 razors collection (had RAD for a while on eBay). My other stuff (soaps, creams, A/S, colognes) I rotate through all that I have, which I thoroughly enjoy doing.

Godrej soap for me is superior to Williams -- easier to lather and the lather doesn't "disappear" as the Williams sometimes does. My son brought the soap back for me from his last two trips to India! The first time it was the small puck in the plastic container. The second time it was a pu...

The only one I've tried is SCS Bay Rum with a Twist Aftershave Milk. I really like the scent. It has a slight burn when I first put it on but that doesn't bother me. It comes in a cool shaped bottle.

I'm also a Lavender and Rose lover. For Rose I've only used TOBS cream and for Lavender I've only used AOS cream. I enjoy them both, but if I had to chose only one, I'd go with the TOBS rose. Using that followed with Thayers Alcohol-Free Rose Petal Witch Hazel Toner really sends me! Does your wife o...

The red tip is one of my favorites. It's in my current rotation of 3 razors, the other two being the Gillette Fat Boy and Gillette Slim Jim, both set at 4. I find the red tip to be slightly less agressive than the other two razors at that setting, and gives a very smooth and comfortable shave.

I sure enjoy my Shavemac 177 Silver Tip brush. It's a great all around brush for creams and soaps. Very soft on the face but not too floppy. Its basic price on the Shavemac website is $105.13, so it fits nicely in your price range.
