Re: Finding our best shaving tools

I am quite minimalist. It is for shaving, my first razor, Merkur 34, it is still my best. Have always been. Thank for visiting this forum, I searched others, but never better. I found out soon that my growth did not need Feather blade. For winter time no better than red personnas. I found the badger...

Re: The Lockdown Razor Cut

I have for years been cutting my hair with an electric clipper. When I was younger I used a something like 30 mm setting, but now as I'm balding on top and in general, just something like 18 mm. I'm sure it needs though some trimming that I'm not able do. But I don't care. In general Vitamin D gives...

Re: Second Pass

Myself i cant get any decent shave with one pass. Second pass mostly xtg but still not clean on my upper lip etc. I use 3 passes.

I prefer rather long strokes as my beard is not very tough. It has not got any thicker (now 62), except more grey.

Re: Tabac

My plan is to how I now use soaps in a bowl. Just using a small amount like 15-20 cm disk (less than an inch in US ,measurements). What a difference a decimal point makes! Yes, I mixed cm with mm. Stranger things can even happen and those from different unit systems, but some like me can do these i...

Re: Tabac

Yes Gary, I feel that was a good choice you made in regard to the shaving stick and also as it is the best travel one to use. Many sticks are not suitable really in my opinion for that, Arko for heavens no with no closed container. And while Palmolive is ok with being mild scented, I would not want ...

Re: Tabac

You fellow members might see it as surprising that I have still no decent bowl for lathering. It is I have not used any shaving creams in like 15 years. I used Florena and Proraso green. Proraso was not very mentholated very nice for my cold climate. I dislike the squeezed look of creams and also my...

Re: Sustainability

I have only badger brushes that I use, 3 of them and I'm not intending to buy more. I rotate them and will most likely last my lifetime. Boar brush is good too, just don't use it, but it is ok. Soft, splitted hairs, needed a lots of work and a soap hog, cause it is big I guess. I have no knowledge o...

Re: Tabac

I am somewhat divided in my opinion about Tabac Original products. I have always liked the scent for shaving. It is not in anyways natural though, instead very industrial smart managed. I guess many other soaps are too. The puck is fine and even more the shave stick is propably one of the best stick...

Re: Placement of nylon washers for cosmetic reasons

Thank you John, as a retired engineer, I give some thoughts about this washer subject when I now know what we are talking about. They are routinely put on screw joints. What I understand is that using them allows to input a desired momentum to the joint = tensile stress to the screw. And also, but I...

Re: Placement of nylon washers for cosmetic reasons

I'm still lost about what a washer is?
My guess is that it is some ring like thing we put in screw joints?

I never even clean my razor after a shave. It has been in the sink while I have lathered up, just an opinion.

Re: Changing the grain pattern?

If I understand you right, you mean if how we shave, can change the way our beards grow. To that I doubt it has any effect. It will grow back same way as it always has. I shave my chins WTG and then the last 2 passes are just ATG. On my upper lip I need WTG, sideways XTG and then up ATG. Perhaps tha...

Re: Environmentally friendly blade packaging

Wellcome you our newest member to the oldest shaving forum! Like Murray told, most blades come these days in cardboard boxes. My faves now nos wizamet super iridiums and then red personnas, my winter blades the reds. Are cardboard ones. Some come in plastic packages. Feathers and Derbys and many oth...

Re: Speak to me about Rotation

My three badger brushes I rotate regularly, without favoring any, all work about the same. That dice cube method would never work for me John Rose. Once a DE blade gets into a razor, there it stays until ditching. No swapping. For me the spreadsheet method works to record. Otherwise I'd never know/re...

Re: Face lathering and brush loading (soap)

I use a well shaken badger brush and preload it with soap from bowl. Not too much soap in there like a whole puck and pretty much build some thick consistency lather there. Because only a relative small amount of soap. Then I go to face and start making lather there. Dip maybe twice the brush hairs ...

I think gary if you missed that time Mer offered us to send our Progresses to him to get a new knob, that you do not have to regret so much. It was an expensive procedure. Of course now persons who now have them feel special. You have to appreciate your money spent :) Still the handle would be the s...

Re: "new" Arko sticks, new order in ingredients

I can't complain any about these Amazon got 2016 sticks.

I always put some Arko soap on the bowl and from there preload my brush before making lather on my face. So I can't compare this formulation as a straight from stick to face lathering. But I tried and that worked too.

Re: finally, mastered the futur

That is also one feature why I have never been so much interested in Futur. DE blades are sharp, but they do no harm and are light and easy to to handle. What with the Futur and I guess the cap popping out when adjusting. It does not happen with any other razor. Then you get something on thumb or ot...

Re: finally, mastered the futur

Murray, your Progress with Mer replaced knob seems over aggressive. Progress settings don't matter what number is there, mine at lowest is about 2, so it is then 1. What matters is that the lifting thing should touch the base when at lowest. There could be some gunk under that thing or even that Mer...

Re: got a new gold futur

One thing I don't really like about these "close" canal shavers like Progress or Futur and many others like them. It is with my HD and in general Merkur fixed heads and also like Muehle/jagger must be the same. I can just shave as long as I want in my opinion even if I have like a 3 days g...

Re: got a new gold futur

I have sometimes thought of getting a chinese made Futur clone, but I don't think I have that kind of shaving technique or able to use its adjustability. Usually with Merkur Progress I shave first pass with about 2.5 setting and then with 1.5 the rest one(s). They say of what I have read that Futur ...
