Humour me on an occasion, and try not doing 'a few swirls' with the brush. Shake the brush gently until it is not quite dry (i.e., as dry as you would have gotten it if you really flicked your wrist), then swirl for at least 30 seconds, and then build a lather. You have no idea what Speick is all ab...

A truly fully loaded brush would probably make enough lather (real lather, not suds) to fill up the bathtub, and it would use up a quarter or so of the puck of soap. Even though the above is a rhetorical reply: I doubt it. There isn't sufficient room in the brush to absorb a quarter puck of soap; a...

What do you mean with 'fully loading'? How long do you spend on the puck?

8 months, 7 days a week, 3 pass-shave? That means (as a puck of MWF is 125 g) you used 0.55 g soap per shave. It means you use about half of what I normally use. I would not be able to do a comfortable 3 pass-shave with just 0.55 g of soap. One and a half-pass at best, I think.

Because there is no such thing as 'over-aerating'. You cannot 'over-aerate' a lather: water is always the limiting factor, not air. If you're not convinced, try putting lather in a kitchen mixer. That device is much better at pushing air through the lather than a mere hand-powered brush; it also cre...

I guess this is what those who struggle with lathering The FAT are doing, too. And you'd be very wrong. That said, I intensely dislike the thought of having multiple brushes for different soaps, creams and containers; so in Cella's case I simply took out the soap and put it into a wider bowl where ...

Actually, I have a hard time believing the story. Liquid soap is still more or less made up from the same ingredients as shaving soap, and given that there was but a small amount in the basin, diluted even further, and then used in a small amount in your brush, leads me to the conclusion that this t...

Conservative not in the sense of using a product which has been around for ages, but in the sense of using products which are in some way continuations of old and no longer produced favourites. There is a tendency to lament the loss of the 'old' Coate's, 'old' TOBS, 'old' Trumper, 'old' Floris, and ...

The soap/cream choices on this forum tend to be rather conservative. That so many people are 'converting' all of a sudden to the Italian soft (almond) soaps makes me wonder a little...

Here's a video about my 1st impressions... To be honest, I wasn't expecting any major problems with the cream itself; the ingredients are quite standard 'English type stuff', so to speak. As such I couldn't bring myself to purchase a pot even though the fragrance is one I'd probably find appealing:...

Re: Martin de Candre savon à raser

I am expecting your soap made with butter, stearic acid and potassium Hydroxide ....well, as far I know some oils as olive oil cannot give good and lasting lather,......in this soap the simple formulation is surprising,...instead of Tabac that's very complex in its formula. Tabac's formula isn...

Re: Martin de Candre savon à raser

The coconut oil is the key, I think, because this soap offers exceptional performance, but not so much for leading this oil but more by how they treat ,.... No soap is like this by this feature. Be careful this is not a coconut soap, only a soap that uses coconut oil. No, there are two keys: (lots ...

The only thing missing from that (well-written) article is what then are 'glycerin soaps'. The name is a bit of a misnomer, as glycerin is present in classical tallow- or pal oil-based soaps too. The idea is that for shaving you need a stable and slick foam layer, and you need not follow the 'tradit...

My first TOBS cream. Shaves good like all TOBSes of course, but I found I grew tired of the scent. I prefer the aftershave (which smells differently).

Usage of soap is strongly dependent on how one likes the lather, and how large one's brush is. I estimate that my current puck of Tabac, 125 grams when I started out with it, has some 90-odd shaves in it (using a very modest Rooney 3/1 st brush), with a shave weighing in at 3 passes, but making for ...

but have become unsure if I want to continue using it knowing that it comes in #7 (unknown/unproven safe) plastic containers which have been thought to leech cancer causing chemicals. I know i could remove it from the tub, but the thought that the soap was originally mixed in a larger container mad...

True, but to me, the tin is just the way the soap is packaged. So in a manner of speaking, what I buy is a refill. I hope it's clearer now.

PdP's scent for me is a winner because it is not very strong, unobtrusive, and quite fresh. If I want to smell nice, I'll use a cologne; in addition I tire easily from strong scents. Not that those which I like are bad, they're just too much 'in my face'. As for the tin thing: I don't use the tin, s...

Re: Thinking of going back to creams...

I know soaps are slicker, but because I cant get a lather like you can with creams im not getting enough cushion and hence has caused a few ingrown hairs/razor bumps on my neck which is annoying me. Soaps are not created equal, and are not the same as creams. The consistency of the lather can chang...
