Re: The state of the current English Shaving soaps

I’ve never been overly impressed with the lathering performance of Trumper soaps (yes, blasphemy...). Of course, I don’t recall ever using Trumper back when it was tallowated (if that’s a word...lol).

Re: Harris soap reformulation

I’m curious what the differences are between the prior formulation and the new formulation. The previous formulation has always been a strong performer....have you tried the new version yet, Gary?

Re: That's not a big brush, THIS is a big brush.

I've been off the radar some over the last few months, but here's some more big brush entertainment - a couple of Plissons dwarfing a tallish Simpson Chubby 3. The Plissons are almost large enough to wash my truck with... jar, that's a nice curvaceous handle on that brush....beautiful. Buzz, that's ...

That's a nice looking knot on that brush, Gary. Very similar to Rooney Finests, but without the grassy/yellowish tinge that some of the Rooneys had.

I like the performance of Arko, but the fragrance doesn't quite work for me.....kind of like Comet cleanser or something....

That's a great soap, Gary. I stocked up on the sandalwood and lavender right after news of the P&G acquisition dropped. I'm glad you found some.

Check my post in that other Harris's Sandalwood thread. Their new Sandalwood Cologne etc. is nothing like their old Sandalwood A/S with which you are familiar.

Re: INCOMING! Rooney Heritage Victorian

I have an early Emillion from the same era as Gordon's....it is very dense with soft, fine tips. At one time, I had a Victorian with very similar loft characteristics. For that reason alone, I ended up selling the Victorian. I hope you got one of the earlier generation brushes, but there's probably ...

Re: T&H Ultimate Comfort & TOBS Sensitive Skin

Chris, I can tell you the T&H Ultimate Comfort is just about as good as it comes. Easy to lather with a mild fragrance (to my nose) and a very good shaving cream. I haven't had the pleasure of using the TOBS stuff. I agree with Gary - the T&H UC is a great cream. The Ultimate Comfort balm is also m...

Re: Creed and Knize shaving soaps

Gary, I have used the Knize soap. It's been a while, but my recollection is that it was an "OK" performer - not near the level of Valobra soaps and other top soaps. The Knize soap irritated my skin, so I ended up giving it a better home. The fragrance was nice....very similar to Knize 10.

Re: Trac II success

The Trac II has been a favorite of mine for years. I use it a couple of times each week, and it gives me very close shaves. It is also my carry-on travel razor (with a plastic handle). At home, I use a Merkur brushed silver finish handle that I bought years ago. I dug up a SOTD pic from a couple of ...

Re: Best English creams/soaps for sensitive skin?

Hi toast:

Another cream you might try is Truefitt & Hill Ultimate Comfort cream. It has a very faint lavender scent and is (allegedly) formulated for sensitive skin. I've never had an issue with it; maybe others can chime in with their experiences.

Gordon, I've been using the Ultimate Comfort cream quite a bit lately. There are days that I prefer a mild fragrance, and the light lavender scent of the UC is pleasing to the nose. As you say, the cream lathers easily and produces a nice, dense lather. I eventually bought the crazy-large pump bottl...
