Re: Ok, fall and winter scent time

Luckily for us Brits, there is a source for the old 'grey caps' at very reasonable prices - well, for Creed anyway! What source is that? There used to be a place in Queensway but they're not there any more; where's the place you're thinking of? A flagon of Orange Spice and one of Baie de Genievre a...

Re: Etiquette and the modern day

Well the Royal Air Force taught me hats off indoors, so that's what a I do. I don't wear a hat except when in uniform anyway, but it's a shame to see basic manners like this go the way of the dinosaur. Ah, I remember old and bold drill Sergeants shouting "There's no woodpeckers inside!!!"...

Re: Ok, fall and winter scent time

creed orange spice YES! he exclaimed with finallity! Sounds good. Gotta try this one. The only Creed I own and a perfect fragrance. Like Kouros but fresher (actually, closer to fraicheur). Although I have no point of reference this is what I think 'Barbershop' smells like. Wife adores it, which is ...

Re: New shaving soap from Penhaligons

Very difficult for me to get excited about this. Their reputation with regards to their soaps is shot to pieces.

They would be better off launching creams in tubs with Sartorial fragrance. Some of the others too, come to that.

Re: Noxzema - it's been too long, my friend

Tell us more about this Noxzema, Gary. Is it readily available? I used to love the Noxzema in the white can. It's passing was the single most reason I got out of cartridges and back into traditional shaving. Pretty much the same with me. Googling fragrance reviews and looking for anywhere selling N...

I have given my boys (21 & 13) all the information they need.

They will find their own way, no doubt.

Re: Embrace the beard

Been shaving for nearly 30 years now, either because it was the law (military) or because it was the 'done thing'. Now I've stuck two fingers up to all that cobblers and truly am embracing my beard. Not touched it for a few weeks and am thoroughly enjoying the new me. Aiming for at least 3 months gr...

Re: Trumpers / Harris / Taylors hair lotions & beards

As the spiffing chaps over at lumberjacks.com/forum don't discuss things like "what's the best rose scent" or "what would Oscar Wilde shave with" I thought this forum would be the best bet for girly advice. As it is, split ends are basically hairs that have split down their lengt...

The tweezers thing isn't a regular happening in our gaff.

It's more like flicking someone with a towel.

You don't ask for it ... they just ambush you.

Re: Trumpers / Harris / Taylors hair lotions & beards

Never oiled my beard when I had one (circa 1983). I used to like the feel of it after washing - it became softer. Eventually it had to go as I had two spots of trichotillomania where I absent-mindedly plucked the hairs out. No doubt I enjoyed the endorphins. Chris Blimey. I must admit when I've let...

There are products out there marketed 'for beards' but my guess is these will just be 'normal' shampoo.

I don't really want to go down the regular shampoo / conditioner route as I reckon that might be a bit harsh on my beautiful face.

Squire wrote:Leaving the face brillo comments aside Vinny, why would you oil a beard?
Daily face-washing (with soap & water) will dry the beard out which leaves it more prone to split ends and breaking.

Trumpers / Harris / Taylors hair lotions & beards

I know this might be anathema to the general spirit of this board but here goes. I'm growing a beard - a great big bushy white Santa Claus one with any luck. I know I can grow a decent tache so thought 'why not?' Now before you all run away screaming I thought I'd ask for combined knowledge of the b...

Re: Brylcream, A Little Dab Will Do Ya

I used to wear Brylcream in the 80's until my hair decided to go AWOL.

My son (13) swears by it now, and not the modern versions of it, I'm talking about the original cream in the red pot.

Surprised how much it smells like Eau De Cologne ... 4711, Acqua Di Parma Colonia etc.
