Re: Feather Portable

Resurrecting this thread. Pauldog, thanks for your generosity all those years ago. I took advantage of your offer and bought two Portables from you. I see the crazy prices they're charging on eBay. I can't imagine anybody coughing up that kind of cash. Good to see you and a few of the "oldtimer...

Re: Aiden Gill

Hello, Dominique ---- I used to visit this site much more often - now very infrequently. Looks like things have quieted down here over the years. If you are still seeking information about your granddad, I'd suggest sending a private message to the member (Trumperman?) who posted the story about bei...

Re: Quickest Solution For Razor Burn?

I have been pleased with these:

Thayer's witch hazel. You can add a touch of glycerine for good measure.

Nivea Sensitive after shave balm applied to moist face

Origins Save the Males after shave balm applied to moist face.

Only time will heal the burn, but these are good soothers.

Re: NEW WETSHAVERS...ARE WE MISSING THEM

I've been following this thread with interest, unaware that it was difficult for new members to join SMF. Thanks to Vince, Chris and everyone else who made this upgrade possible. The issue of a forum's culture is an interesting one. Ideally, it should be allowed to live and breathe with its membersh...

Avocado green was very popular in the late 60s / early 70s, which explains the second one.
The first one? No idea. Maybe it started as another color and became discolored over the decades.

If I found the one product that I really wanted and had searched high and low for, I would buy enough to suit me and then I would share the good news.

In other words, I voted "Yes."

The combinations we use in our shaves can make a world of differnce.

Arguably, the most important combination is which blade with which razor,
as you are discovering.

There have been many discussions on the subject ant there will be many more.

My previous post in this thread, where I mention that Nixon shaved with an electric, refers to the time of the 1960 election. He may well have switched to the Trac II when it came out during his first term.

Nice to see this thread revisited for Squire's take on how the three Astras
line up against each other.

Interesting that the Superior Platinums in the olive box may be the least sharp of the three.

When I first started DE shaving 5 years ago, my first blade was Derby and they worked really well in my Merkurs. Then, as happens with most of us, I ventured of into a journey of blade exploration. One day, a new EJ DE87 arrives in the mail from TESC with a free pack of Derbys and I pop one in for t...

I really like the EJ line. Great razors.

My current go-to is the blue handled version from West Coast Shaving.
It detrhroned my HD, which is no small feat.

No reason to put your face through anything less than a satisfactory shave. In our world, a sixty cent blade is considered expensive. If one turns out to be a sixty cent dud, into the blade bank it goes. And I'm only out sixty cents. Much better than having to toss a four dollar dud with five micro-...

PIF to celebrate 5 years on SMF -- CONUS

Hi, everyone -- Five years ago, I joined the ranks here at SMF and to say "thanks", I'm offering a little gift of a couple of vintage Gillettes to you gents. First is a 1964 J3 travel Tech in the common metal box marked "Razor n' Blades". It still has the dummy blade card in it, ...

It will be 5 years for me in a few days and I still remember that Murray was one of the members to respond to my first post and welcome me to SMF.

Thanks for your warm welcome all those years ago, Murray.
Little things like that can stay with someone for a long time afterwards.
