Re: Pasted Strops

Steve, sorry if I gave the wrong impression. I was meaning that I use a regular strop with a less heavy draw prior to every shave, and substitute the latigo every few shaves in order to "sharpen" the edge.

Re: Pasted Strops

Steve, I have both CrOx and diamond paddle strops and I hardly use them because I find that when my razors have reached the stage of needing them, honing is inevitable fairly soon anyway. What does prolong the life of a blade is the use of a latigo strop, not every time but after several shaves off ...

Re: Shaving bowl in UK

Looks great Roger. FWIW I use an even cheaper white cereal bowl by Denby, http://www.denby.co.uk/white/white-small-bowl/invt/011010045. But if you want the best, complete with royal crests, take a look at DR Harris' latest offering here, http://www.drharris.co.uk/lather-bowl-shave?search=NEW. Very p...

Re: Chubby vs Polo

Matt, I have these brushes, both late Gloucestershire Simpsons, both in super. The knots are indeed identical but they are different brushes in the hand. The PL10 has more heft on account of the bigger handle and I use this one for hard, triple-milled soaps. The CH2, which I generally prefer, gets u...

The new heading

Many thanks to those who have brought about an improvement in accessibility, clarity and so on with the new location. It's a minor point that I have. The turquoise banner seems to indicate SMF squared, which is not really the idea. Would it be possible to bring the digit 2 onto the bottom line, so t...

Martin, here is a Simpson user from not too far from you in the UK! Can I suggest that you email Mark Watterson at Simpson via their website, and tell him of your problem? He is very interactive and helpful, particularly to us locals. Best if you can email him a pic of your brush. Let us know how yo...

Yes it's the same as the T&H "Luxury" soap. And so is Trumper's "Officer & Gentleman". These small sizes were made to fit in their scuttles, but they do well for me for travel purposes, in a very light and small plastic container.

Yes a touch of ATG is essential for me too, though under the angle of the jaw, in the direction of the chin. That's after a full attempt at with, and then largely across the grain. But of course I'm limited in which directions I can use, being a straight razor man!

I'm currently using DR Harris Arlington as my shower soap. A big (200 g) tablet, been a favourite for years. I have 2 of these left that are of the old tallow-based formula, then I'll have to try the veggie version.

I don't use aftershave very much so I suppose that I'm not really qualified to speak, but for me the principal scent of MWF is a mixture of geraniol and lanolin. Therefore I suggest that you look in the rose and allied fragrance department. MWF partners well with rose-based creams. Of the few that I...

Lets hope that they never mess with the formula.

To my nose it smells exactly the same as it did when my grandfather used it, more than 50 years ago. Still, I guess some new regulation could emerge that would force them to alter the formula!

When I was in Salzburg recently I saw a new 6/8 Boker "Celebrated" in the Henckels shop, of all places! It looked very nice in a horn handle, but I thought that it was overpriced at ~€200. I resisted the temptation!

Maybe the bottom line is that CF sandalwood is, like the other CF scents, based on essential oils (EO) only. Lynn's comment on other manufacturers' sandalwood creams being "overly perfumed" is apt. For me CF sandalwood was not sufficiently inspiring, though the cream base was excellent. I ...

If the loft is indeed 56 mm that looks to be a superb brush and I would be very happy to try it! I can't see why the uniformity of hair colour change should affect performance, but you may know better…! After all, the colour transition point for each hair will be mixed with all the others in the sor...

My wife claims she will confiscate my man card herself if I do. :( Oh dear, that will require more thought than whether or not to try rose soap or cream! IMO rose may be the single best, highest, most distinguished shaving scent of all! It combines well with MWF, by which I mean that if you load th...
