Re: Gordon or Bernards66
Even though it is public information, I would remove or despecify his personal info. (Though I'm tempted to mail him an Arko stick.)

Re: Gin
I like Beefeater because it was my first taste of gin (snuck from my parents' liquor cabinet and better for it). Though I'm glad to see it has fans independent of that.

Re: Where is Everybody?!
I drop in now and then. I've bought a 500ml bottle of Arlington and two tubes of Prorasso. I think that brings people up to date on my acquisition disorder.

Re: Maybe I'll go to jail
Have you tried calling? In my experience the people are very accommodating even of vacation plans for a deferral. If you want a perpetual excuse that is another matter, and a neat trick if you can get it (though I would actually like to be on a jury). Also--and unrelated--I am glad to see the good D...

I think it has to be dry and in a vacuum for the electrons to bounce the right way.

NPR segment on disposable razor blades
I heard this on the radio today . Apparently razors are dulled not so much by bending the metal as by chipping off of material caused by minuscule imperfections in the metal. The gif of shaving in a scanning electron microscope is neat (I think they used some sort of artificial skin since the hair i...

I am watching Buster Keaton's "Sherlock Jr." and just saw this intertitle: His Assistant,Gillette: a Gem who was Ever-Ready in a bad scrape.

It didn't have to be safe--just less dangerous than the alternative.

Re: 'Website not secure' notification
There is a free ssl certification available from the Electronic Freedom Foundation (EFF) via letsencrypt.org . You need root access to the web server to install it, but I have been using it for a couple years without incident. To redirect all traffic to https, you add a 301 redirect to the Apache or...

Re: Spam?
I made spam musubi not too long ago. You marinade the spam in soy sauce, then pan fry it and wrap it in nori and rice like sushi. It got mixed reviews, but I know some people who love it.

L'Occitane Cade Soap & Bowl for $30/FS with coupon
It comes with a beauty kit, so if your SWMBO asks what arrived you can distract her from the modest expense. http://usa.loccitane.com/cade-shaving-duo,82,1,29221,939155.htm The coupon code is BEST17, and it is $10 off $35 and free shipping, so it will work on non-cade--and even non-shaving--items. '...

Re: Comment on using up products
I still have the tail end of my first tube of Proraso from 2007 or so! Right now I am trying to finish off the C&E Sandalwood soap that I bought shortly thereafter (I have a Trumpers Sandalwood waiting in the wings). I'm also pretty close to finishing off an Arco stick and some "White Tea&q...

Re: Wade & Butcher back in business
My initial reaction was B.S. as well. My suspicion is that a bunch of investors wanted to get into the straight razor market, looked for a tweedy, upmarket name, and bought the rights to use "Wade & Butcher." Maybe they will use the old designs, or the old foundry (though this page ind...

Pretty good deals from ShopLondons.
Shop Londons.com is having a warehouse moving sale. Shipping is still $7 unless you get to $99 (in which case it is free). Their everyday sort of crappy $5 off coupon does work with the sale items. The GFTrumper selection is not great, but Sandalwood soap in the bowl is $13. I opted not to buy Rose...

Re: French Press coffee maker
My chief complaint against the Aeropress was that it didn't make enough coffee. So if you just want a little, that is the way to go. I left mine disused for a time and the plunger dried out and they will replace any part for $5—which they say is to cover shipping.<p>A friend recently got me a vacuum...

Re: Alpa Fougere Eau de Cologne
I am necro-posting to put my reassessment close to my initial disappointment. I now have both English Fern and Alpa, and while no one would mistake one for the other, Alpa does smell nice and some days (like today) I am glad to have Alpa in rotation..
