This thread is fairly recent, but it seems we have failed to discuss the new tallow based formula of Cyril Salter's shaving soap which is quite good, and quite economical to buy. Made in England. If you haven't tried it, I suggest giving it a try in pursuit of the best of the current shaving soaps....

I had the 2011 briefly. I used both a mild blade (Dorco ST-301) and a sharper one (Gillette 7 O'Clock Blue), but I didn't ever get comfortable with it. Two shaves in with the v3A from Maggard. It is certainly more aggressive than the standard DE89 head, and I do like the closeness I get on my neck as a result. The chin is not really much of an improvement. Perhaps more time with it would yield a different result. That said, the finish is not great....

It has been a while since I used Arko. With a boar it is absolutely terrific. I know some dislike the scent, but for me it is one of the quintessential shave aromas.
