Re: My adventure with a Muhle R41

I had the 2011 briefly. I used both a mild blade (Dorco ST-301) and a sharper one (Gillette 7 O'Clock Blue), but I didn't ever get comfortable with it. I don't recall which shaved more smoothly in the razor, but given that you have good technique, I say err on the side of sharpness. Maybe don't go f...

Re: In Praise of the Ordinary Razor

Two shaves in with the v3A from Maggard. It is certainly more aggressive than the standard DE89 head, and I do like the closeness I get on my neck as a result. The chin is not really much of an improvement. Perhaps more time with it would yield a different result. That said, the finish is not great....

Re: Want to buy --- Guerlain Vetiver

Glad you like it, Gary. It's a classic, for sure. My fragrance "rotation" is down to a lavender water (currently Bourbon French), a bay rum (currently homemade), Comme des Garcons Vettiveru, and the Guerlain. I may pick up something else for date nights soon, and I have some Mr. Taylor that I wear w...

It has been a while since I used Arko. With a boar it is absolutely terrific. I know some dislike the scent, but for me it is one of the quintessential shave aromas.

Re: Rose, Cyril Salter and Vetiver

I would do Taylor over Trumper for rose, but that's mostly because of brush staining from the latter. For lime, Taylor's lemon-lime is awfully artificial IMO and not enough lime. I love T&H and Trumper both, so I'm not sure you can go wrong with either. Salter Vetiver is great, and I'm a vetiver jun...

Re: In Praise of the Ordinary Razor

Murray, you may be right that I just prefer lighter razors. The Mergress was fine for me, but obviously I did wind up parting with it. After having tried a hundred-dollar solution to a small problem, I'm now working on two different and very cheap ones. The free option - I've refocused my technique ...
