OK, this is interesting.
But I would want to scent to last a bit longer - I don't do cologne myself - and rely on the AS as a pleasant scent for myself.
Oh - and Everclear? Buy at the liquor store Everclear? Hard to imaging that's less expensive that what you mentioned.

Re: Homemade Face Tonic/Aftershave
Tim, Are you saying that the "base" is 60% of the total? So, if I wanted to make 32 ounces of aftershave I would need 19 ounces of the "Base" (and that 19 ounces would be created using the proportions you laid out) and the balance (11 ounces) would be the scent? Makes me think you could craft a big ...

Re: "That Lather"
My soaps that used olive oil as an ingredient (all of them, actually) were ready to use in about 2 weeks, but I could have used them once they cooled down to room temperature. Not sure why there is a cure time recommendation that long, either.

Re: In Praise of the Ordinary Razor
Tim - like you I picked up the EJ DE89L a few years ago and I really do like how it performs. If I had to choose just one razor for the rest of my life I could easily see it being this one. It handles any blade I feed into it - and the shaves I get from it using what I consider my least performing b...

Interesting, but with a comment of:
"...These are the perfect compliment to modern injector razors that do not require a key..." I guess they won't fit my regular razor?

Hi Gary ... WOW, that IS a long time ago.
I had always intended to try your recipe, then I accidentally flushed all my PM's - and that was where I think your formula was. Wasn't yours based on a soap currently available? McD or something?

He was a good vendor, and a nice man. I spoke to him a couple of times - always a polite professional. I remember calling him once after I got some birthday cash to spend on shaving gear. I told him the details and he offered me a nice discount on my purchase to help my money go farther. Also - when...

Chris - we ave a sleep number bed at our house. I prefer a firmer bed, and it seems you might, too. This is our second or third one - they last a long time. They can be a bit expensive - I will say that up front - but we enjoy ours, no doubt. We are considering a new one now - the style that has the...

I like Spam, but I am the only one in the house that would eat it - so not likely to make an appearance at my place.

Re: "That Lather"
When I got back into wet shaving (2008) the move away from tallow was in full swing. It took me quite some time to develop a taste for soaps - I only ever used creams back then. But, I noticed one day that my shaving rotation had distilled down to this: 1) Creams in a tube if I shave in the shower (...

Re: chin - problem with grain direction
Gene and plutek, I have not liked Merkur razors with the standard fixed head, either, but I do really like the Merkur Progress (in my case, the upgraded "Mergress"). I use it at the lowest setting (I have sensitive skin and require a mild razor), and I find it both mild and effective. (It isn't as ...

Re: chin - problem with grain direction
thanks, gene! have you ever used a merkur 15C? i've been leaning that way a bit... I have the 25C (I think). Long thin handle and open tooth head. It did not impress me, but with razors it's always YMMV I have noticed. Are you in the US? If you are then PM me your information - if you want it you c...

it's true, and i'm not impatient for something else... what i have now is helping me to discover important things about technique, and is giving me totally acceptable results. yay! mostly, i just find the butterfly mechanism overly complicated and not the easiest to clean. Re: Williams Redux
I have been using MWF soap for a year or so, and I like it too.
A bit expensive, but it is really nice.
MWF shave soap is in my rotation, but I never thought about them having different scents. My nose must be out of spec if I can't detect a difference.

Re: SilkSmoke synthetic brush
I have an old EJ BBB handle that lost its knot a couple of years ago.
I was thinking that knot would be good for the handle, but the opening in that handle looks like 22/23 mm, so no joy there.

Re: Williams Redux
Agree about the William's but not the Mitchell's.
I like the scent of William's, and I like how my face feels after I use it, but it is terribly difficult to lather.
MWF is good for me, and part of my regular rotation.
YMMV.

Re: Dishwashing Machine Trick
Living in the Texas hill country is an experience in dealing with hard water. That sounds like a net trick - hope it helps someone. We have a water softener at the house. I sometimes think it spoils me - my shaves when I travel are always in water harder than I have at home - and I can feel the diff...

Re: Coates Sandalwood
I really like the Coates creams. I had a big tub of the sandalwood that I bought several years ago - it was fantastic. And, as noted, I have a bunch of tubes that I bought - in sandalwood, lime and lavender. The lavender scent is a bit more ... astringent ./.. than other lavenders I have used, but i...
