Re: Williams Redux

Agree about the William's but not the Mitchell's.

I like the scent of William's, and I like how my face feels after I use it, but it is terribly difficult to lather.

MWF is good for me, and part of my regular rotation.

YMMV.

Gary - that is really pretty.

What are the dimensions? Was it expensive?

Re: Dishwashing Machine Trick

Living in the Texas hill country is an experience in dealing with hard water. That sounds like a net trick - hope it helps someone. We have a water softener at the house. I sometimes think it spoils me - my shaves when I travel are always in water harder than I have at home - and I can feel the diff...

Vince awakens! And it's not spring or groundhog day. Amazing. Good morning Vince! I noticed the change - had to think hard how to get into my regular area for reading posts, which is unfortunate for me - stuck in the throws of a bad "cedar fever" or something this morning. Pretty much everyone I kno...

Re: Coates Sandalwood

I really like the Coates creams. I had a big tub of the sandalwood that I bought several years ago - it was fantastic. And, as noted, I have a bunch of tubes that I bought - in sandalwood, lime and lavender. The lavender scent is a bit more ... astringent ./.. than other lavenders I have used, but i...

Gareth - It IS nice to have you back in the fold. Congrats on your daughter - as the father of two of them I can certainly offer 2 thumbs up to all the advice and warnings offered so far. I have quite a few personal challenges for myself for 2018. I need to get back in the saddle from an exercise st...

Re: General by Colonial - one year already and not looking b

I liked them on Facebook, and saw a posting that they were back in stock.

You could just stalk them from time to time, too, I guess - or visit their website every so often?

Re: General by Colonial - one year already and not looking b

Morning Clive,

Maybe, but I don't think they make too many at any one time. I had to wait a month or so for the less expensive black ones to become available.

Re: General by Colonial - one year already and not looking b

I bought the black aluminum razor when it showed up in stock a few months ago. I bought 3 Feather and 3 Kai Captain Titan blades from the folks at Try a Blade to go with it. I like the Feather blades better. In fact, I think they feel better to me than the tradition Feather DE blades (but that's me)...

Re: Why sandalwood?

Several years ago I had a co-worker whose personal hygiene was far below our norm. I traveled with him on several occasions and was always careful to not get too close to him. From body orders to horrible dental issues - it was astonishing how bad it was. I remember the one time he, I and 4 others w...

Mike used to put the occasional link to his work on here on a regular basis. But I now realize it's been a while since I saw any of his stuff.

Sad to get reminded of our friends that have fallen away.

We are about 15 miles south of Austin. About half way between Austin and San Marcos.

Looking at the 2 inches of snow that fell last night - an unusual thing for us hill country folks to be sure!!

Re: Favorite hotel

Bryan - They told me a little about this. The law is already pretty clear - French first, english second. Our phones system is that way - you get used to it. What does perturb me are the people who pretend they don't speak English when I want to order something at a deli or whatever. Deliberate snub...

Re: Favorite hotel

The Nicolo sounds wonderful. The company I work for is based in Montreal - and I get a lot of (private) laughs tossing the odd French word into my conversations - I can almost feel them rolling their eyes at my Texas-accented tones. "Bon Jour, y'all" and so forth. Gary - we are about 90 minutes from...

Morning Gay,

I will. I've wanted one as a travel brush for quite some time - and this was too good a deal. Besides - you can't go wrong dealing with Phil (he didn't put me up to that).

Afternoon Sam,

I am a 40, not a 42 - so that jacket won't fit. Sorry.

I like that jacket, but it's been a while since I bough a jacket or suit, so I forget what size I am. But 42R sounds right.

alas - I am in Washington state for the rest of the week!

Black Colonial Razor

I keep reading how good these things are, but I am just cheap enough that I wanted to hold off until the black aluminum style came back in. I decided to "Like" them on Facebook - that's how they told me I would know when the black ones were in stock. Well - they are in stock now, and I just ordered ...

Re: Cuban coffee

I prefer a more robust coffee myself. Cuban is nice when done well.

On a side note - the ever-funny French feel this way about American coffee:

"...The nickname which the French give to corporate brands of coffee such as Starbucks: jus de chaussettes..."
