I have been using a boar brush lately after years of using my Rooney. I was surprised to see how soft a supposedly scratchy brush is. I have been using an Omega 10290, and I have a Semogue 830 on the way. I get great results with the Omega, especially in terms of a rich lather and a closer shave, bu...

Vintage Probak DE Razor - Great Shave!!
I just picked up one of these. Three piece open comb, nickel (I think). I don't know very much about it other than it was a subsidiary of Gillette. Not even sure when it was made other than it was made for "modern" DE blades; so no older than say 1930. Could have been made in the 40's even...

If you haven't already tried a 1930's Gillette NEW, that's worth a try. I'd also second the suggestion of a Super Speed. There's a Gillette made now in India (7 O'Clock Sterling) with a head similar to the Tech, with a thin metal head and a plastic handle. Not too hard to find online. Yes - these a...

Col. Ichabod Conk
Not that this changes anything about the quality of the soap. But Col. Ichabod Conk is a fictional character. The reason I am posting this is there are stories floating around that Col. Conk was a real person. The fictional story is even on the Col Conk products web site. I found this using ancestry...

Re: Musty smelling razor blades?
Howdy, gentlemen-- Am I going to give myself some weird Venusian plague? Well - the T2 toxin that the Soviets used against the Afghans was made from wheat rust. Some microbes manufacture toxins as a by product of their metabolism. Botulism is another example. It might be ok, but I would disinfect t...

Seamus I would toss them. I've kept blades in open containers exposed to the heat and humidity of our Deep South Sub-Tropical climate for more than 50 years without once experiencing any fungal growth. If you must use them I would give them a deep soak in alcohol first. Yeah I agree - I would at le...
