I agree with you -- outstanding return on the investment -- certainly these are now more than "serviceable" razors. Bob's restoration looks very good indeed.

Here is a review that I did on an "Old Apothecary" (Rooney) in finest. About three-fourths of the way down, I compare a Pre-JUL 05 Shavemac (model 436) to it. http://www.shavemyface.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13393 I'm not sure if I have a D01 knot. Were the 2007 Forums brushes (black handl...

The Shave Den aftershave splashes contain witch hazel, aloe vera, and glycerin. You can also add allantoin to it for a small fee. Saint Charles Shave's aftershaves splashes don't have all of those ingredients, but in some cases have equivalent kinds of ingredients (from my understanding -- I'm no ex...

Perhaps tightening the pivot (like Maestro Livi does in his videos) is the best way to allow a good stropping? Basically, make the razor a long fixed-blade razor/knife. Although, that certainly presents the problem of even more gear (wrench) & prep time within the den.

I have razors that have presented me problems with stropping too. Like you, good doctor, I figure a way to get it done. Those razors will be used too! They are a tool first and foremost; the art is the benefit.

I think some of the ingredients (e.g., clay) can come "out of solution" and precipitate to the bottom of the vessel when heating. Perhaps this is what happened, and the soap is no longer homogenous like it should be.

I too have had problems with reminents of lather between blade & scales causing corrosion. It is definitely an anecdote worth puting out for other straight razors to keep in mind for their own collections.

I had a Feather ACD-N that I eventually sold. I didn't like how it shaved -- I either got a clean shave that didn't last, or I got bloodied up. I've never used he shavette styles, but I suspect that they would be the same. For me the DE techniques were even more necessart wih these disposable-blade ...

Plastic disposable pipettes (aka syphons, syringes) may be what you're looking for. A google search should also get you an online vendor of your choice.

FS: Shaving Brushes ** ALL SOLD **

For sale are several shaving brushes from Rooney, Shavemac, Savile Row, and Saint Charles Shave. Each brush was cleaned prior to the photographs for this post. They've all lost the occasional hair, but none of them would be considered a "shedder." I'll accept PayPal, personal check, or mon...

How does the Lizard's edge look under a loupe or microscope? If it looks jagged or chipped out, maybe it's got a problem with weakened/compromised steel near the edge? Based on some anecdotes that I've read, you'll have to go back through your progression, and observe the edge as you go. Once you se...

I've read some posts from others stating that excessively hot water damaged their brushes -- made the hair curl up at the tips. However, there's also been discussion of a type of super badger hair that would appear to curl, or bend, at the tip as well -- aka "barbed" super. This hair will ...

I'd like to see the use of H1 steel for the rust/corrosion prevention. The work hardening from honing would be an interesting aspect too.

Gordon, That makes sense since you've got extensive DE experience, and at least some open razor experience. However, with many coming to it initially, I get the sense that they're too tentative with the razor. They slow down for fear of a severe cut -- scarring, bleeding out, and wind up with poor r...

I said at the time that I assumed that eventually one would just get used to it, as one does with many things. I tried every conscievable angle...
