Re: Trumper Sandalwood creme.

Love all of Trumpers scents. Rose and Violet are my favorites. The slickest, closest shaves I get from Mitchell's wool fat shaving soap. Since you're going to try tallow based soaps, you might want to give that one a try.

I know it's a bit off the mark, but it could work.

I'm sorry for your loss. I have the same thing happen with Bayberry. My grandmother used to burn Bayberry scented candles at Christmas. Those are some of my fondest memories of my grandparents. The smell always takes me back.

I would recommend the Rose. I have the sandalwood and while it's a nice it's not the best sandalwood I've used. I am partial to AOS sandalwood.

Wow!! I have been away for far too long. Just this past weekend I used SCS Parma Violet for a wonderful shave.

Even though it is belated I would like to offer condolences to Sue's family. She will be in my prayers.

Parma Violet

I am getting dangerously close to finishing off my tub of Saint Charles Parma Violet shave cream. The problem I now have is that it's a scent that's no longer available. I was wondering if anyone here had any suggestions for replacing it. I have Trumpers Violet and it's close, but not quite there as...

Well on point one I believe in good strong hot water. I find that my shaves go really well after the shower. Then moisten my face and proceed to lather. I like to leep the lather "loose". That is, it gets to the consistency of sauce not meringue, if that analogy helps at all. I find that l...

I have very curly unruly hair. Anything more than a closely trimmed goatee makes me look too scruffy and wild.

I have a tub of the PV cream and it is fantastic as well. Nice and slick and the scent seems to linger for hours, which I like. I have to load up soon on cologne from her so I'll be getting more of the PV products as well.

Ok, my razor burn is way worse than that. I have found that improper technique and a dull razor blade will definately have an affect on my shave. As an example I got what I thought was a wonderfully close shave this past Sunday. It was so good I was going to post my results here. Then Monday came an...

As an aside. I was on vacation two weeks ago and neglected to pack deodorant. I'm running late for dinner and don't have time to run down to the lobby of the hotel that I'm staying at to see if they carry any. Then I remember that the Alum block and those deodorant crystals are basically the ...

Shaving poll

I had such a wonderful shave experience this morning it got me to thinking. How many times a day does everyone here shave? I know that there are some every day shavers out there, but it's just too much for my skin. I need to shave every three or four days, sometimes only once a week. That said I was...

For an acceptable shave I don't go ATG, but for BBS I need that third pass. After the second pass I rinse and put on a fresh layer of hot lather. Let that sit a moment and then very gently start go against the grain. I have to pay close attention to blade angle and what my face is telling me. That u...

I'll add that in my relatively short wet shaving experience, that most of the guys who seem to like the alum have oily skin. Guys with dry skin almost always detest it and guys with "normal" are rather hit and miss. I have rather oily skin and really like my alum block. It helps my skin h...

Love my Vision, but it definately has a steep learning curve. I didn't learn how to use it correctly until I took a step back and got a less agressive razor and worked on my technique. With proper technique it's a joy to use.

out of curiosity why is it so polarizing? is it the size, heft?? thanks I do believe that weight is a factor as well. Being so hefty you need to rely more on technique and a light touch to get a good close shave. In my experience, some lighter razors can stand a touch of pressure to guide them alon...
