CREED FLEUR DE THÉ ROSE BULGARE. It is rather hard to find and expensive. Pretty much a blend of green tea and bulgarian rose. The least feminine of the rose scents I have sampled.

I have used 4711 for 40 years. It is fleeting but I use it in lieu of deodorant. When I heat up I can smell a whiff. I also use the R&G Farina scent and it IS a bit different in that it has a bit of a clove scent. The 4711 can be had for very little if you buy the 800 ml splash.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking that I could get it repaired by Vulfix but maybe not. I should email them about this perhaps, couldn't hurt. Good suggestion about sending it to Shavemac. I'm not wedded to the Polo handle, although I like it very much, the knot is what it is about for me and it ...

My experience: I bought a Rooney 1/1 and found the handle too small; I gave it to my brother. I bought a 3/1 and love it. Then I bought a Rooney Emillion and it's very luxurious. Almost too big but a wonderful brush, as big as anyone would want. Such lather....

Trashed handle

I have managed, while shaking out my Simpson Polo Brush in the tub to smash the handle in a very bad way. The bristle pod is still intact but the handle is TRASHED. I think I bought this from Leesrazors several years ago. Can I send it in and get it repaired or get a rebate for the bristle? I expect...

"The Art of Perfumery"

After I saw the pic of the 4711 Eau de Portugal in the Japanese cologne thread, I Googled it but could only find it for sale at a German site. Oh well... really want to try it. Anyhow ... I ran across this as well and found it fascinating reading. Late 19th century book digitized by Google, "Th...

The other day at the grocery store I came across some bowls that were called "ice cream bowls". They are stainless on the inside with enameling on the exterior. They are double walled and about 4.5 to 5 inches in diameter. They work great for lathering and they are unbreakable!.

BXTN I have just finished going through what you seem about to explore. As a consequence I have LOTS of samples that I have made decisions about and have been looking for someone to pass them on to. That could be you if you would send me a PM with a mailing address, I will send them off to you. Thes...

Well, I decided to go with the PL8 but haven't purchased it yet. I just saw the thread about the Duke 3 group buy. Hmmm. In the meantime I gave my brother my Rooney 1/1 Super as he is brush challenged (read, boar brush for decades) and I feel obliged to bring him over to the light!! I replaced the 1...

Guy, I had the exact same experience several months ago starting out with single blades. I got a Merkur HD but was afraid to use it so I got a Weishi. Went through Dorco 301s, Crystals and Derbys in the Weishi but it took way too many passes. Put in the Feather and it was 2 passes, done. Recently go...

BAD advice

I want another brush or 2. I've been into this "high end" stuff since May this year. Before that it was 43 years of what I could get...mostly boar brushes and Williams soap. I have 3 brushes_ in order of purchase: Rooney 1/1 in Super Simpson PJ2 in Best Rooney Emillion What I use: Harris S...

A Tale of 2 Sandalwoods

Well, I had to order the D.R. Harris Almond soap after all the comments and I am glad I did. I knew it would be good stuff but it does smell GREAT as well. The Quinine reference was what got me, damn you Gordon (an enabler by any other name...)! It may edge out my Arlington, the current favorite. I ...

Well. I have only 4 brushes, 3 are Rooneys and one is a Simpson. My first brush was a Rooney 1/1 in Super. It has shed about 5 hairs in 6 months. The Simpson, a PJ2 in Best, has shed about 3 hairs in 5 months. Then I got an Emillion and after 1 week it started shedding about a dozen hairs per shave....

+1 to the Gentleman's Refinery A/S Balm. I got some as a sample from Jim @vintageblades and I really like it. I wonder if it is somewhat like Harris A/S Milk of old. I never got to try that. Anyone done both?
