Re: Another $300 razor, with a surprising blade
Yes, I think the recommendation is to replace the blade after every shave. Certainly after the second. And here I was bitching having to dump my injector blade after three.

Murray, there's a new version of the Ubersoft knot carried by Nathan Clark that's more fan-shaped than the previous version:

However, this is a Plisson-style rather than Muhle/EJ-style fibre.

Tim, along with your soaps I'm just as impressed by the written descriptions of same on your website. I'm fighting the urge to grab some Cimarron and be transported back to the Old West.

Re: History of Witch Hazel
I've been using Humphrey's for a long while. I gave Thayers a good try, but the heavy dose of aloe in their formulation left major tack. And drugstore brands do come with a stronger scent that tends to hover; not very appealing. The Humphrey's, OTOH, is clean, clean.

Re: Synthetics or Simpsons... strange selections!?
Simpson Best is a hit-or-miss proposition. It will either come with soft tips or scritchy ones, and you won't know which until you buy one and lather it up. A Savile Row SR2122 in Best badger would be a good alternative without the risk of getting scritch. If you want to give 2-band badger a try, Vi...

Re: Injector?
The 74s will be harder to find than the Schick Plus Platinums. When you come across the latter, grab them. They will be a tad smoother than the Personnas on the first couple shaves, though the 74s will outlast the Schicks by a good margin, on average. After using either one you'll understand what th...

Re: Injector?
The Chinese Schicks available today are hit and miss; sometimes they'll be smooth, other times not -- but they're the best of the current lot. I gave up on injectors a long while ago because I didn't care for modern injector blades, having been spoiled with NOS, but have recently returned to the fol...

Re: Paladin and M&F
The short answer is yes. In effect we now have two chances to score these brushes. In the long run, having Ken and Dark Holler a player in this game is a huge plus for the community. He will have a new website up and running soon, and dealing with him is overall a much pleasanter experience than goi...

Re: What are you reading?
I kept only a small, select library of (to me) classics in hard cover after my last move. I've downloaded eBook versions in PDF as backups, when and where I could find them, along with some newer works. But I've never cared for serious reading via computer screen, much preferring the ancient traditi...

I haven't been able to find this size any more at the local market. Every size and shape but.

Re: gillette versus todays razors
My first Krona's rod would bind and seize when I twisted the knob to close the silo doors. If I worked it enough it would finally open, but it was hit and miss. That was the only problem I've ever had with these razors; no blade alignment issues or anything else of note. I never could get along with...

Re: gillette versus todays razors
. . . Say one thing in Schick's favor though, it's a damn fine design that for some here produces the best, most trouble free shaves. . . I have a Krona and it offers up probably the best DE shaves I'm ever going to get. But even this great old design has to take a backseat to what I get via Schick...

Had a couple of Matfer ss/alum pots at one time and they were pretty industrial grade -- just what I like. I've had many brands and don't recall if these were the ones that came with chintzy-cheap lids -- the pots themselves were first-class and heavy, but whoever the manufacturer was claimed the li...

Re: A new injector on the way?
I agree that the (lack of) availability of good injector blades will render this problematic. I gave up injectors before because of this; why would I want to get back into that game? Having said that, I have en route a rare Schick N3 that I've been searching for forever in an attempt to recapture th...
