Re: Why buy Simpsons brushes?

I've owned quite a few and they've all shed to some extent, some excessively. And having to deal with the company was a pain. So I wouldn't.

. . . I find myself using a cheapo Omega boar brush with a beechwood handle most days. It does the job and I don't have to be careful with it. . . Dr. Chris, have you used up many of those dozen or so boxes of the Omega (10005?) you posted about long ago? There's something to be said for having bac...

Lee Marvin, Burt Lancaster, Robert Ryan, Woody Strode. Great movie.
Claudia Cardinale was aces, too.

Re: Italian Barber Tech Clone

First thing, I ditched the stock handle and replaced it with a Maggard SS that looks and fits me better. I like that the head is wide enough to cover the whole blade -- I wish more manufacturers would opt for this simple design upgrade. Used a smooth and efficient Voskhod blade. The shave, though, w...

Re: OneBlade Razor experience

I just finished a few days trial with this razor and its Feather and Gem blades. A smooth and efficient shaver, just the right length and weight for me, so-so grip. The Feathers are done after one shave and are a bit smoother than the Gems (which I'm not going to be able to test for longevity). I'm ...

Re: Rockwell Blades

I haven't yet tried the Rockwell blades, but the razor itself is an excellent shaver. I've been through plates 1-4, all using Gillette Silver Blues, and find myself favoring 2 and 3. Plates 1 and 2, I've been told, are similar in aggressiveness to a Feather AS-D2; the 4 plate comes close in blade ga...

Re: I've Learned to Use Big Floppy

Well, I'm just as turned off by flop as by firm & dense, but have found Shavemac 2-band silvertips to be a great middle ground. Even so, it took three of them to dial-in the right amount of comfort and efficiency I was after. My loosey-goosies like the Kent and Savile Row, and a Thater or two, w...

Re: Wilkinson Bonded for travel?

Gene, I've heard the WB is an excellent razor system. If you don't want to try the Feather MR3 NEO cartridge system, or are finding current injector blades a no-go, then this might suit. I'd be interested in hearing what your take is on it afterwards.

. . . And I agree with Squire on Bowie's acting abilities . . . His best stage presentation was probably the performance of Under Pressure with Annie Lennox for a Freddie Mercury tribute concert held at Wembley in 1992. Classic. . . . . . And here's a cut from the practice session .... https://yout...

Re: New Brush to SMF: Zenith, made in Italy, sold in Austral

He's also offering a barber-handle brush with a dense synthetic knot that looks like an STF, but he claims it's not. 27.5/51 specs, with a glue bump that drops effective loft to 47mm-ish. The price is right, but that's an awfully short loft for hair that in certain configurations exhibits pretty fie...

Re: Most "Reliable" Vintage DE's?

If you're now including injectors, late-model Schicks, especially the L- and N-types, have no moving parts like earlier models (except the hard spring that keeps the blade secured in its slot -- but I've never heard of it failing). OTOH, the injector body itself can jam when feeding the blade into t...

Re: FYI.....on the www, the One Blade

I found this on Mantic's site, quoting from him and OneBlade's manufacturer: "A fresh blade for every shave is recommended by OneBlade and that did work best for me, but I found I can get up to 3-4 shaves per blade if necessary." Which is probably where I got the idea in my head originally...

Re: FYI.....on the www, the One Blade

I believe when it first came out single-blade use was what was recommended by the manufacturer, though users were pushing it past that point but not by far. I haven't followed its adventures lately and would hope current users are getting their money's worth.

Having to replace the blade after every shave is a big turn-off. Definitely for the high-spenders in the wetshaving community.

Re: I thought I wanted a Wolfman razor head ---

Gary, I've heard about the Wolfman and it's definitely worth lusting over. However, I just received a beautiful Tech razor from Murray that shaves plenty fine and is a nice piece of engineering on its own. So, after all these years in the game it has become apparent to me that when it comes to decid...

I'm glad that Squire continues to post, sad that Gordon no longer does, and hopeful that Dr. Chris will add more of his insights. I have a couple thousand posts, about a handful worth anything -- a higher percentage than anywhere else -- so can say SMF brings out the best in me. :) Still my favorite...
