Re: Shaving soap or cream of the day

Thanks Basil. I was wondering about the texture being different than the standard mentholated Proraso we are all so familiar with.

Re: The Science of Sharp Blog

It's been 10 years I'm using straight razors. Bought and sold more than a few razors, hones, strops and other related substances and devices. Sharpened and shaved with dozens of razors, many of them untold scores of times. Bottom line: keep it simple. Fact: different types of razors do not - and nev...

Re: Which straight razor did you use today?

This morning I used the freshly sharpened Hart 6/8 razor. I do like the way it feels in the hand and on the face. This is because it's a quarter hollow. Doesn't make any sound. Nice razor.

Proraso Wood & Spice cream
Basil, I've been curious about the scent of this shaving cream. What's your impression? Is this the one that comes only in the giant tube?

Re: Home Roasting Coffee Beans

Agreed. The failure to learn from the past is usually a costly mistake. When I revisit the past in memory, depending on my mood, sometimes I choose only the good memories, but some days recalling the not-so-hot painful stuff is pretty unpleasant and always makes me very thankful we don't live back i...

Re: The Science of Sharp Blog

It's been a month already since I sharpened 3 straight razors and shaved with each of them over a period of 3 days. This morning I picked three more favorites for sharpening to shave ready condition. I chose the Hart Steel 6/8; the Boker King Cutter 7/8; and the Filarmonica 14 8/8. Used the same sto...

Re: Home Roasting Coffee Beans

(She also taught me how to wash clothes by hand.) - Murray Oh yeah, coffee! Coffee was usually purchased there half-roasted, as it stored well in that form. One then roasted it in a bin over a fire to taste, boiled it, and served it with copious amounts of sugar. I gave up on trying to get it unswe...

Re: Williams Mug Shaving Soap is still horrible

At the risk of digressing: So many times have I heard, or have I thought to myself, how agreeable the old-fashioned soapy Williams scent is that it is really surprising that no soap maker (e.g. Haslinger) ever seems to have thought of producing a similarly smelling and sized shaving soap that works...

Inspired by this straightforward discussion, I've been mildly tempted to impulsively try one of the least expensive coffee grinders a few times, but it hasn't happened yet. Old lifelong habits are so hard to break, as someone once said.

Re: Shavemac in synthetic game...better late than never?

Yes, thanks for this very informative review Brutus. I ended up selling my Muhle and Jagger synthetics recently as it seems I've taken a different path with success regarding the SilkSmoke and Tuxedo synthetics, and the relatively recent Manchurian badger.
