Re: General razor - newly redesigned model

Here's a shaving forum review of the V2 General. The description of the most important improvements is exactly what I've experienced, and stated much better than I could have. I have no idea how the designer did it, but it seems cuts and nicks from very sharp blades are a thing of the past. Day in a...

Re: Friday's shave

As usual, today's Friday shave was delightful. 2 more days of Asylum Vetiver Bourbon tallow soap to look forward to, then I'll be rotating to the next on the list.

Re: Five Days in October

As a war fighter I can attest to the misery of dysentery that results from drinking from foreign wells, and to the slow recovery over such a painfully disabling disease while in the war zone.. The only small consolation is that the enemy also might die from it.

Re: Question for you old farts and retirees?

I am getting close to the old fart age. I asked my Italian Barber, Sam, about shaving and he said the only time you shouldn't shave is when you are "dead" otherwise you should shave. For him it was a discipline that meant you still cared about the whole "routine" of living......sorry to be philosop...

Re: Sharpening Kitchen Knives

I get confused by the different types of Chef's Choice sharpeners. I know that many of them are differences of exterior casing material or finish, but there appear to be two main types in the $125 to $150 price range. Does one type produce the "Trizor" edge and one a standard 15-degree edge? If so,...

Re: General razor - newly redesigned model

I've been using my v2 General for about two weeks now. It's an improvement over the highly competent original. I wanted to show my loyalty to the brand. I doubt any other razor I've ever tried has worked better for me. I couldn't be more satisfied with this razor. I use Schick Proline and Kai Captai...

Re: Ancient North American cultures

That's a fascinating concept (or fact). Thinking about it as a practical nerd, I want to check the common ancestors of the folks who were the first commonly related pair of the 50 generations, and then for the common relations who were the first of those 50 generations and so on to the beginning. I ...

Re: Shaving soap or cream of the day

For the next 2 weeks or so I'll be using the Asylum Vetiver Bourbon tallow shaving soap. The label says "crazy good shaving soap". I say that's a great description.

Re: Shaving soap or cream of the day

Finished up the Tabac's allotted time in the annual rotation today. To date the stick has yielded 70 shaves, probably about halfway to being used up. Legendary product.

Re: Cheap shaving tools guide for a newbie.

Synthetic brushes dry so fast it's a moot question. Badger and boar brushes I use get a vigorous shaking and a thorough towel-drying before I place them handle down for drying.

I have fond memories from early childhood when we visited my grandparents on the farm out in the country. Grandma fried her toast and it was amazing.

Re: Friday's shave

Today's Friday shave was #10 in a row using the New General. I'm still gathering data so I can give a proper review when the time is right. Oops, a slip of the keyboard --- did I say the shave was a 10? 8)

Jim Gaffigan on gifts: “I can’t believe we’re still giving clothing as a gift. Cause whenever you get clothing as a present, you always open it up and you think, ‘Not even close.’ And the person that gives it is always like, ‘You can take it back if you don’t like it.’ ‘That’s alright. I’ll just thr...

Re: Sharpening Kitchen Knives

Same here Brian. It's too late for me, but maybe sometime soon some brilliant and open-minded genius will come up with a similar electric sharpener that can put a wicked sharp and smooth edge on my favorite straight razor. It's all science and technology. There'll be a small clique who'll laugh smug...

Re: Kitchen knives Sat Apr 14, 2018 10:26 pm Ever since I first read this thread I have been very curious about the Chef's Choice diamond hone knife sharpener. My daughter had asked me to sharpen her kitchen knives that had been given to her when she moved into her own home and had to get the kitch...

Re: What is the best meal you've had at a restaurant?

Most recently, for our youngest child turning 30, the three of us drove 280 miles west on I-40 to Amarillo. That's where the Big Texan is located. They brew around 12 of their own beers. Our daughter and I ordered a flight of our choice of any 4 of the house beers and for $6 we each received four gl...
