Re: SilkSmoke synthetic brush

Now that the SilkSmoke knot has been installed in a new leadwood handle finished with deep CA, created at my request by Vladimir Ferdman, I'm a very happy camper. I used it this morning for the first time. It has a bit more backbone than the Monster I've been using for the past few days. Soft and sm...

Re: Back to a two-pass shave

Ira, that lingering residue is the key for me. Without that slickness following the lather pass and a splash of water , the soap or cream is dead to me. As you say, just water and no lingering residue is lousy. I have thrown away or stopped using a number of soaps and creams that aren't as slick as ...

Re: Back to a two-pass shave

If the soap or cream I used on the single ATG pass is fortunate be as slick as I like, the water-only pass is exquisite. Any that aren't slick in the touchup water pass are not my cup of tea, and are gathering dust "in the box", or in the dumpster - it doesn't matter which.

Re: The Science of Sharp Blog

Just this afternoon I was thinking that even though the scripted method Todd provided (with much thought and effort, which is deeply appreciated) didn't work for me even though I wanted it to, I should look at a more conventional means of sharpening the Red Imp Wedge. I like that razor and now that ...

It sounds like a good deal on some good boots. They should last a long time.

Re: Boots for heavy rain

In my decades of going to court, etc. I never found it necessary to change into wading boots. We don't get much rain around here, and when it does, the only folks we see out and moving about during the height of the deluge are mail carriers, tow truck drivers, etc. Otherwise I (and everyone else cau...

Re: An alternative to shaving every day

This is an update to my original post above, 9 months ago. It took several years of experimentation to identify the tools and products that give me the best shaves of my life. They're all inexpensive and they meet my expectations and perceptions of what an ideal every day shave should be. Because I ...

Re: SilkSmoke synthetic brush

From the beginning, the manufacturers attracted their customers by making their synthetic brushes look similar to the standard non-threatening badger and boar. Then some black synthetics showed up, and now there's this smoke color. Shaving brush handles, on the other hand, were only offered in the s...

Re: Williams Redux

A few years back I read about the glycerin process. I tried it and it didn't work for me. I also tried most of the other suggested courses of action and nothing worked (for me, YMMV). Once or twice I raised a lather, only to see it dissipate within seconds as I watched.
