Re: Semogue Caravela Mistura in Taj Resin

I have no comment on the brush head, and will leave it to those who know. However, the handle is eye candy on the highest level. Nothing short of a work of art.

Re: Advice for starting a new cake of vintage soap

Old soaps that may be reluctant to lather usually are revitalized by grating and re-packing into a bowl before use.

Re: Shavemac in synthetic game...better late than never?

Excellent! I can't wait to hear your report. What size knot did you get? Bulb or fan? There’s a 26 mm bulb on the way, and a 28 mm fan on order, but not dispatched yet. I travel regularly and need a sturdy brush to take along. And they are not overly expensive. (At least that’s my excuse. 8) - What...

Re: What Did You Sharpen Today?

Yesterday I sharpened 3 of my old straight razors so I can use them. First time in a long time and an enjoyable project. I'll have to try to do this more often.

Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in his shoes. That way, when you do criticize him, he'll be a mile away and you'll have his shoes.

I'm always interested in new synthetics, especially when coming from Shavemac. Looking forward to reviews.

Re: The Science of Sharp Blog

True to my word, this morning I picked three of my favorites for which I broke out the stones and made them all shave ready for myself. I've chosen the Red Imp Wedge 5/8; the SSA Eskilstuna quarter hollow 6/8; and the Dubl Duck Special #1 full hollow 6/8. After flattening the stones I started with t...

Whole wheat bagels

This week my almost 14 yr. old grandson was out of school for spring break. He spent the day with me and I was inspired to show him how to make my famous blue ribbon winning whole wheat bagels. He did all the work and I was just narrating as we followed the recipe. The result was outstanding. He had...

Define your SOTD

A dash of hot tap water on the soap, load the dry brush 4 seconds, build lather on the face. One lather pass against the grain, splash hot water on the face without rinsing, smooth and touch up - finished! The right soap, right brush, right razor and blade. Perfection!

AAF - is it any good?

Evidently there is a newcomer to US pro football. Do we have any aficionados? What's it all about? I could google it but that's not always as informative as talking to a real person.

I like NASCAR because they know how to properly salute the Stars and Stripes. No kneeling, hats off, sing the words. =D>
Today's race is Martinsville VA. This year Toyota has frequently been in contention.

Re: The Science of Sharp Blog

Lately I've been psyching up to give it another shot. I'm thinking I should devote a day or two to some quality time with two or three straight razors. The Imp Wedge for sure, and another one or two from the stash.

Schick P blade showed up today for #22 and left behind a very smooth shaved face. I see it going another 9 or 10. Hopefully.

Re: Refinishing burl wood brush handle

Tim, knowing what we currently know, I'd certainly ask the maker of the handle to consider a finish that doesn't disappear after only a few weeks of use in wet soapy conditions as mine did. I presume a woodworker making and selling expensive handles has wood-turning and airbrushing equipment and exp...
