A year or so ago, I bought a clean '54 SS off Ebay for about $20. We're talking clean, mechanically perfect, and a fine shaver. I am entirely happy with the transaction.

Stepped away from watching the space shuttle docking with the international space station to shave with my pre-Sputnik 1954 Gillette Superspeed, Williams soap, and some Boosters Polar Ice.

Now, back to the show.

BK4

I picked up a BK4 earlier in the year when the total cost from London to a non-descript suburb of Chicago in the blindingly boring state of Illinois was $55. Still haven't used it. Waiting for an appropriate occasion. A new job? Got it from auravita.com. Happy with the transaction. Worth the...

Williams is the only soap I'm using right now. That doesn't include the Trader Joe's Honey Mango cream I'm finishing. Anyway, yes the lather can be thin. The answer is to load up on the product. You'll use it up faster but so what? It's inexpensive. Update: Due to its nature, Williams "encourag...

If you're using Opera, use the + key on the numeric keypad to enlarge the text and the - key to reduce it. This may also work on other browsers, the existence of which I have heard some scuttlebutt.

Well, "hater", no. "Completely disinterested", yes. Pretty much the same here. Prefer individual over team activities anyway. I always notice when patrons at a [sports] bar refer to the home team as "we" and get emotionally involved in the game. "We" didn't w...

Gillette Razor Info Source Gone?

Many of you probably know of the website carrying information about vintage Gillette razors, their date codes, and other manufacturing data. That website was hosted on Geocities which is now gone . The original URL: http://www.geocities.com/safetyrazors/gil_ser2.htm no longer works. The only way to ...

Best advice I've seen regarding blade angle:

Use the blade like a scythe and not a hoe.

Some of the best burgers/dogs/beefs/fries I've had have been from independent, single owner places. No franchises. Not a fan of formula food.

My '47 Aristocrat is my best shaving razor, no question. Not a museum piece but it shaves better than my HD and Superspeeds (regular and red tip). Derbys or IPs, same smooth outcome.

Not at all disappointed with the loss of the Olympics even though I live within thirty miles of Chicago. The infrastructure just couldn't handle it. The brush I've used daily for >2.5 years gets shaken out in the shower and then hung bristles down in a plastic stand stuck to the wall. It gets about 24 hours drying time between uses. Works for me.

I'm from the "less is better" school. Having slight rosacea, I have some background in this. My first recommendation is to stop slapping on more product. The few balms I tried did nothing but redden me even more.

Use mild soaps/creams. I lightened up after my Proraso ran out.
