Veterans Day 2018

At the eleventh hour of the 11th day of the eleventh month

One hundred years ago today. Something to think about.

I live in the central time zone and 11:00 is coming up in 25 minutes. I'll observe it six hours later than France.

Re: Is SMF losing its vigour?

I have an idea for a thread but I'm still formulating it. Has something to do with women.

Re: Elections

My scorecard shows more Ws than Ls so I'm reasonably happy. Now I'm looking forward to seeing the gazillion candidate signs being taken down. Things were starting to restrict outdoor air flow.

Re: Praying for boys stranded in Thai cave. Rescue under way.

I was a caver a long time ago and did horizontal, vertical, and even paddled a rubber raft in an underground stream (with a guy who couldn't swim). Also been through one emergency, similarly caused by heavy rains. Our strongest female caver had her legs give out while at the bottom of a 510 foot pit...

Re: Practical jokes

Here's one that only people with some knowledge of MS-DOS will appreciate. I was going on vacation from my IT job and knew for a fact that the Corporate Automation people would be by to mess with my 286 computer in my absence. At the time, the computer would boot to a C> prompt. Not everyone knew th...

Aqua Velva redesign

I was getting low on my supply of AV so I stopped at Target for a new bottle. And it was a new bottle, in honor of AV's 100th anniversary. I picked up one of the two remaining and came home to compare the two designs. Maybe I'm resistant to change but I prefer the old bottle. Classier fonts, IMO. ne...

If I switched out the Rapira for the 7 O'Clock Yellows, this could be my every day shave.

That's been my finding. Didn't actually expect it to bloom. Okay, maybe a little.

Added a puck of Haslinger Sandalwood to a recent order. Definitely a small diameter. I'm planning on using it in an empty Cella container.

Edwin Jagger Extra Large Silvertip Fiber - Review

My experience with brushes so far has been with a $35 Edwin Jagger Best Badger (rebranded as Crabtree and Evelyn) and a Kent BK4 silvertip. Both have served me well over the past 8+ years. This is my first synthetic. First impressions: Not as cloud soft as the BK4 but more comfortable than the EJ. N...

Re: Your Favorite DE Blade Currently Available

Always happy with my Gillette 7 O'Clock Yellows. Easily last a week and never irritate.
Polsilvers are excellent also but my face can't take a full week.

Re: Worst scent ever

Jovan Musk Oil was the go-to babe magnet scent in the 70s. At least that was the marketing. Now I wouldn't touch it unless I were going to a 70s party and why would I ever want to do that?
As for worst scent, I'd have to go with Aqua Velva Musk. Gaggingly sickly sweet. They forgot to dilute it.

Re: Taking a break from the news

This is Day 4 and I still haven't visited any news sites or blogs. Got a quick notification from Reuters about the attorney general pick but other than that I remain blissfully unaware of events I have no control over. Yes, I was missing the weird little side articles but even those no longer seem w...

Taking a break from the news

This is not, I repeat not, a political thread. Quite the opposite. I'm detoxing from an overconsumption of news. This is my second day going without reading the news of any kind, political blogs or websites. Whether it was on my phone first thing in the morning or on a computer during the day, I kep...
