Shave Soap purpose?
So at first I thought that shave soap was a replacement for shaving cream - but now I'm not sure, and I don't see a thread on it, so I thought I'd ask: What exactly is shave soap for? Are you supposed to actually shave with it, or just clean your face with it and shave with cream? I suspect you can ...

Only on my second DE shave here, but I don't think alcohol is a good thing to put on your face, unless you suffer from infections or acne regularly - all it does is kill bacteria and dry your skin. FWIW, I will second what everyone has said - you should adjust your technique. I used to use a cartrid...

Second Shave
This morning I had my second shave. Way better than yesterday, as my angle and lathering technique improves. I spent a little bit more time face lathering. Here's a quick rundown for this morning: 1) Shower, let warm water soften whiskers. 2) Dry off (except for face), fill sink with warm water 3) S...

Re: First DE Shave experience
No, it hasn't thickened, unless your face is one big callus. What happened is that you learned to shave without hurting yourself. A very good thing, yes? :D I suppose that's true - I am definitely looking forward to my next shave, I think that "noise" that I was hearing was just right, ma...

T&H, Taylor's, and local vendors
As I'm new to DE shaving (just received my first brush, razor, etc. today), I'm interested in trying some T&H and / or Taylor's shave soap - but I'm not really interested in ordering a bunch of tubs online. Is there a national chain that carries these soaps, where I can go and smell them before ...

I've battled ingrown hairs for several years now. This sounds more like clogged pores rather than ingrowns. Remember, your pores are (or should be) wide open when you start your shave, and throughout your shave, because of the hot water. If you're not rinsing with cold water afterwards, your pores a...

I've watched Mantic's videos, although it seemed to me that his angle was more aggressive than I'd be comfortable with for my first shave. One thing I have learned is that over the years dealing with ingrown hairs / razor bumps / razor burn is that my skin seems to be way more resilient than most. I...

New member / Semi-new to wet shaving
Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I ordered the necessary tools (razor, badger-hair brush, blades, and stands for the razor and brush). I'll probably order one of the sample packs to try out different blades, especially if I can't find a good supply store locally. Unfortunately, I didn't f...
