Re: Cyril Salter solid shaving soap (tallow)
Have you used the most recent formulation of D.R.Harris shaving soap for a direct comparison? My comparison is based on my last encounter with a DRH soap several years ago. They've certainly changed since then, when/if you do get the chance to try the most recent formulation, I would be keen to rea...

Re: Cyril Salter solid shaving soap (tallow)
I think they switched formulation about 12 months ago, but anything within the last six months should be the most recent version, you could always check with the vendor(s).fallingwickets wrote: ↑Fri Oct 19, 2018 5:46 am how 'recent' is recent. my last dandy and rake was bought 2015-16

Re: Cyril Salter solid shaving soap (tallow)
The shaving soap base of the Salter's looks very similar to D.R.Harris' current iteration, so that could be an alternative for more scent variety?
Anyone used both to compare performance?

Re: Is Plisson still in the hunt?
I bought my first (and only) Plisson shaving brush a little over six years ago now, a size 14 European white set in an Ebony wood handle. It practically ended SBAD for me and I've been using it around 90% of the time to build lather for my shaves. It has for me a great balance in the hand, face feel...

Re: Truefitt & Hill Rose/Lavender Shaving Creams
I'm speculating here, but I feel that with D.R. Harris re-introducing their Rose scented cream has made them change direction, a saturated market as you say (with them also offering a Lavender). The Lavender and Rose scents despite forum perception weren't best sellers either for them. At the time I...

Re: Truefitt & Hill Rose/Lavender Shaving Creams
They have been discontinued, the Lavender hasn't been in stock for a while now, bought one of the last tubes left from T&H's shop almost a couple of years ago now.
They are moving towards cologne scented shaving creams solely (Almond being the exception).

Re: Question for the scent Mavens
D.R. Harris Marlborough shaving soap is heavy on the Cedar wood scent but isn't pure cedar wood, it's a blend of woody notes with a hint of spice.

Re: Trumpers hard shaving soap- my review
'Cocoate' in the ingredients list merely indicates that it is the current formulation of shaving soap being offered by Trumper's. I am working my through a Sandalwood puck of this current formulation at the moment, alongside a previous formulation of Violet. Both lather well and I get a very good sh...

Re: Trumpers hard shaving soap- my review
The current formulation used by Trumper's for all of their shaving soaps now uses the same base formula as the Eucris soap. So it's not difficult to tell if you have the current formulation or a previous formulation. If you are not familiar with the Eucris formula, then key word to look out for is '...

Re: Huge News:Re-Reformulated Penhaligon's Soaps
Standard Soap Co. were producing the good palm versions of both Trumper's and T&H's shaving soaps (and bath soaps too), they were a company with over a 100 years experience in soap making, so they knew what they were doing (but stopped manufacturing last year). Trumper's, T&H and Penhaligon'...

Re: Huge News:Re-Reformulated Penhaligon's Soaps
I was told a while back that Standard Soap Co. made Trumper's soaps but they closed about a years ago. You'll find that they are now using this particular soap manufacturer, as are one or two other well known names here

I immediately noticed ( and commented here I think ) that it seemed to lack the punchy scent that their Lavender soap used to have. And, it turns out that this Almond scent is the same trip only to an even greater extent. I bought refills of all five D.R. Harris shaving soaps directly from their sh...
