AoS Old formula soap
For anyone interested, the Apothecary store in the Palazzo-Venetian shopping mall in Las Vegas had four tallow formula Art of Shaving soap + bowls on the shelf ($54 each) as of Sunday 5/1/16. Clearly, they don't move a lot of these. However if anyone feels the urge, there are three left. I thought a...

Re: Further Evidence of the Death of Civilization
If this is what the end looks like, we’ll be just fine. Has anyone actually used this brush, or just assume it’s inferior to badger a priori ? I’ve been using the L’Occitane version for several weeks now. It sits next to a Simpsons Chubby 2, Polo 8 (both Super), and size 12 Plisson EW, all 2-band. O...

Re: AoS soaps, no tallow
I purchased the new AoS Lavender sans tallow a while back (curiosity you know). While I never particularly cared for the clay undertones in the scent of the tallow version, it was an excellent soap. I hold no special reverence for tallow-based soaps (MdC is my personal favorite), I was therefore agn...

Re: Non shave soap; fda.... FYI
Really?! So who thinks they won't be able to "prove" this? Which one is going to say "oh, you caught us, we've been lying. Never mind." Right. Actually, it will be rather difficult to prove these “antibacterial” soaps are more effective than regular soaps. Assuming the primary e...

Re: Recommendations sought for stereo system
You might consider holding on to that Marantz receiver. It’s not that there aren’t impressive sound systems available today in the “audiophile” equipment range (where the sky is the limit in cost), it’s just that you would be surprised how well a 1970’s receiver compares to the equipment sold at you...

Re: Problem with some shaving creams getting hard . . .
Interestingly, I’ve found that the creams in glass jars tend not to dehydrate vs. the plastic pots. I have several used Crabtree & Evelyn jars, an unused Sweet Almond Oil, and a used Penhaligon’s Blenheim Bouquet. All are well over five years old and all are still soft.

Re: Need help!!!
Was about to offer the likely diagnosis, but Dr. Moss beat me to the punch. The sine qua non of shingles is that the lesions stop at the midline, as the viral shedding follows the distribution of the affected nerve. In this case, it's the ophthalmic branch of the trigeminal nerve (V1) as Dr. Moss ha...

I’ve been using the Vision as my daily razor for at least the past 3-4 years (with rare use of either my Executive or #58 just for the sake of variety). The Vision is definitely peculiar compared to the Gillette’s. I too find that you can barely tell its cutting. I only use Feather blades, and open ...

I was going to mention MdC, but refrained out of fear of ridicule. Now that others have opened that door……….. I have been running a similar experiment, to see if a jar actually lasts one year as advertised. I have used it seven days a week for nine months. With about a third remaining, it will easil...

I would suggest another order, eliminate “stimulates hair and exfoliates” since as previously mentioned the brush does neither, and add a new category to think about (actually, a category we discuss incessantly regarding brushes, but this is the proper name for it). 1. Produces lather: While the soa...

Well, there are those of us who really don’t care about “too easy to use” or “just works.” I understand the lure of the Apple universe, but some of us are condemned to tinker. Never met a device/machine that I could just leave alone. To each his own I suppose. Considering a “modified” Nook can prett...

We should be very thankful indeed that the Yardley English Lavender is available at all. Who cares if it’s the U.S. version? Compared to the typical drek sold in the supermarkets, it’s a steal. Best price I’ve found is at Bed Bath, and Beyond. It’s a regular stock item as a four-pack, selling for (I...

I too took the plunge back in the Fall. I mitigated the undeniably absurd shipping cost by ordering 2 jars. I have used it almost exclusively since then, and find it to be the best soap (cream?) I’ve ever encountered, bar none (until of course, I find the next best one). The cost, even with the craz...
