OMG I remembered a before pic http://i251.photobucket.com/albums/gg296/gssixgun/BeforeW_B.jpg This one came down from Canada for a restore, pretty straight forward except I got sidetracked for 2 days after the initial 220 grit sanding on the scales and left them soaking in Neatsfoot oil for that tim...

Back in late 07 or early 08 Poona one of the guys from Ireland and a Honemiester on that side of the pond and I stumbled on a interesting phenomena at about the same time... Making almost the same mistake as Dr.Moss only with pasted stropping, we both found that after the final stropping and test sh...

What the DE does with coatings, the Straight Razor shaver does with a strop... Honing only gets you part of the way there, "Stropping really is King" when it comes to how that edge feels on the face.. If you are not Burnishing in the edge with your stropping then you are never going to get that best...

Beautiful! (I've never heard of 3M Tri-M-Ite before. Looks a little pricey.) The 3M works almost as well as the Micromesh You get 2 sheets of each grit for the $12 which would be about 8 sheets of Micromesh sized paper of each grit so cost wise it is a bit better.. Now length of use ???? The Microm...

so Naniwas DO absorb water and you need to soak? Yes, No, Maybe... You want to be very careful how you word that, and what you are doing, soaking is the wrong word as "soaking" a Naniwa SS might leave you with a pile of mud... It says specifically NOT to soak them... BUT The Naniwa SS do expand and...

Hint: 10 minutes will eliminate most of of your problems, either spray the Naniwa SS and wait 10 minutes or soak 10 minutes... Then do about 5 figure 8's with a DMT 325 and yer good to go,, just do the 5 figure 8's as you start each razor and lapping is a thing of the past,, This allows the stone to...

:) the Tape/No Tape topic has been hashed and re-hashed so often it make my eyes hurt... Here are some numbers we compiled, these are real bevel angles, not theory or "I thinks" Real razors measure angles from 13 degrees to 24 degrees, and everyone of those razors was a shaver... The average angle w...

One thing I have learned over and over and over again, so many times it has basically become my personal honing Mantra because if I follow it, the edge works 100% of the time... Bevel, Bevel, Bevel, honing really is all about the bevel, once the bevel is set correctly, everything else is just icing ...

I use mostly Cerium Oxide on leather after honing 12 laps but it does not really sharpen, it pretty much just smooths.. I sometimes hit 8 laps Chromium then 12 laps Cerium but not often, followed by 50/100 linen/leather... I believe this about pastes, there are very very few edges, that cannot be im...

I just noticed at the beginning your were honing the bottom "corner" of the razor ST Ahhh yes you are probably watching the "Breadknifing Video",,, as that warning says that is "Restoration" not honing... That vid is of a complete re-contour of the entire edge, and is a very advanced technique...It...
