Re: Canada Shaving Soap

Thanks for the review, Basil! A first ingredient of stearic acid bodes well for a good soap. I also like that it is truly unscented (although I really like soap scented with citrus EO). I've already got a helluva cache of shaving soap (and blades), but this might be worth checking out. - Murray If ...

Re: DR Harris shaving soaps

I purchased almond, sandalwood, lavender and Arlington a few months back from connaughts and they are all tallow first. I'm very happy!!

Re: Badger Cull To End

Great info, Chris. Thank you. BTW, until you have tried the Muhle/Edwin Jagger silvertip fibres and/or the Simpson synthetics, I think your comment regarding alternatives to badger may be premature. Some don't like them as well as badger, but they are vastly different to the cheap synth knots used ...

Re:

Hi uoficowboy - Distilled water is "bottled," but it is not the same thing as bottled drinking water, which often has minerals added for flavor. People buy distilled water to use in steam irons and such. It is labeled "distilled" on the bottle. I lather in a bowl and I start out...

Re: Musgo Real soap

Tim, thanks for the review. I have always loved Musgo Real's scent but the cream would irritate me if I used it more than a shave or two. I still use those very old tubes now and then for a shave and it does smell wonderful. I even have a few tubes of the oldest formulation and they are wonderful s...

Re: The state of the current English Shaving soaps

I’ve never been overly impressed with the lathering performance of Trumper soaps (yes, blasphemy...). Of course, I don’t recall ever using Trumper back when it was tallowated (if that’s a word...lol). Their first veggie formula after dropping tallow was killer! They reformulated again and everythin...

Re: Mitchell's Wool Fat and Hard Water

Nope, no issues lathering MWF in hard water.

However, I should state that I switched over to using RO water for all my soaps. I just find it keeps everything consistent and my lather is just how I like it without any fuss. I use bottled water when away from home.

Re: Harris soap reformulation

The new formula DRH soap now lists tallowate as the first ingredient, just as does Salters new formula. Evidently these two soaps now share identical top 9 ingredients. Now that's very interesting! Now if only trumpers would use the same manufacturer for their shaving soaps...that would be heaven! ...

Re: Harris soap reformulation

I’m curious what the differences are between the prior formulation and the new formulation. The previous formulation has always been a strong performer....have you tried the new version yet, Gary? I have two Windsor pucks, one old, one new. There's no discernable difference between the two, either ...

It's really good stuff! I wish you find some.

I would have sent you a sample but unfortunately it's not practical from where I live.

Re: Checking out some Taylor's soap and creams

Nav, I know everyone has their own preferences and experiences. In my analysis, the Taylor's is on a par with my experiences with Harris soaps. I have learned over the years that the best way for me to get thicker lather from Harris is to overload my brush for at least one, and even two minutes of ...

Re: What does DR Harris Arlington smell like?

For anyone still wondering about Arlington, I get a nice blend of citrus top notes, along with beautiful grassy/green, fern notes.

One of my all time favorites!!

I will! I wont be getting the Eucris one though. I'll be eager to learn of your results. My experience with these soaps has been less than acceptable. +1 I'd also love to know the current status of trumpers soaps. If anyone does post a review, please also post the ingredients, batch number/manufact...

Re: Checking out some Taylor's soap and creams

After a few days of the Taylor's Sandalwood soap, I've learned that while it does lather and doesn't disappear, the lather's not plentiful. It's more a watery slurry. I think this is a soap that would be preferred by those who don't want a thick rich voluminous lather. I place it 2 notches below Ta...

Re: Review: Bath House Cuban Cedar & Lime

In my own case, I avoid hard milled soaps because they are all (that I know of) scented with fragrance oils. Fragrances all smell like bug spray to me and they burn my olfactory. Essential oils apparently don't hold up through the extra processing of milled soaps. - Murray Actually i believe most h...

Thanks for sharing this review. Too bad it doesn't get more guys trying it. I'm glad to hear that it's a good performer. Lol you're right! I don't think there is much interest in hard milled soaps, especially those that don't already have a good reputation. I'm very happy i took a chance with this ...

Review: Bath House Cuban Cedar & Lime

I'm a real big fan of hard, milled shaving soaps and recently wanted to try out some soaps that really don't get any airtime on the forums (I recently posted a review of the Baume.be soap, which was a TOTAL DUD!!). In fact, I wasn't able to find any forum reviews on this soap from Bath House. So, in...

Re: Fine Accoutrements Shave Soap

Just to clarify, The maker of Fine has stated that he reverse engineered the Tabac formula to create his soaps. Most users of fine soaps have agreed with this and basically call it Tabac with better scents. I have 6 Fine soaps on the way and am looking forward to them very much! (Fresh vetiver, sant...
