Re: Where is Everybody?!

Our forum is dead. What’s going on? It is not just SMF, forums of all sorts are rapidly turning into to ghost towns, or disappearing altogether. They were great for learning and discussion, but also had a lot of churn and conflict. Just as forums displaced usenet, other social media platforms displ...

Re: Sustainability

What about horsehair brushes? Ol' Seabiscuit makes a pretty good brush. The horse hair comes from normal grooming, and does not harm the animal. Horse hair is also not derived from petroleum products. Those wanting a premium brush can buy a High Mountain White Horsehair brush. They are made from a r...

Re: Wet Shaving and the Internet

I found myself unwilling to go through with it, as there was so much simple nastiness to be found. Are shavers such horrible people? Is it a testosterone/beard-growing thing? Not traditional wetshavers in particular, but people in general. I don't think it is everyone, but many folks just can't res...

Re: Pre shave oil

I tried the pre-shave oil in the Art of Shaving pre-shave oil - shaving cream - aftershave balm samplers. My shaves were better without the pre-shave oil than with it. If you have an AoS near you, you might want to go by and get a couple of the samplers to see if pre-shave oil works well for you. If...

Re: Has anyone ordered Connaught Shaving and Shaving.ie lately?.

Why U.S. vendors prices are so expensive that U.K. Vendors? Are they trying make money? It stands to reason that the U.S. vendors trying to make money. Some shaving products imported into the U.S. have a minimum price imposed by the manufacturer or U.S. distributor. Any retailer who sells below tha...

Re: Check this out: pretty bad shave, right?

I need advice please! My face never looks clean.... Here's my face about 2 hours after shaving. It feels mostly smooth, but looks horrible, right? You do seem to have a lot of redness and irritation. You say it feels smooth, too. One problem guys often have is wanting to get a baby bottom smooth sh...

Re: What I've learned so far...

I think the original post is one of the best ever, and agree wholeheartedly with those who sing its praises. I do disagree with two of the points, though: -- Women just. Do. Not. Get. It. Oh they get it, but us men often fail to listen. -- Because the BBS is for US. Women, on the whole, either don't...

Re: Posting Has Slowed Down Lately

Most of the wet shaving "action" today is on other forums that cater to younger whippersnappers and every new "whiz bang" razor. Choice is good. However, the archives here are priceless and a resource for all to peruse. Most of the wetshaving action has moved to YouTube, Reddit ...

I guess he has other things to do, but it's funny that he just stopped posting without saying he wasn't going to be around anymore. People usually don't say "adios peeps, I'm hasta la bye bye" on forums. They simply stop posting , sometimes gradually drifting away. As you noted, there are...

Re: popularity of things

Its something that has bothered me for years really, for years. The popularity of things in the realm of shaving. Its common for newbies to be told that they should get themselves off the bat, a specific list of razors to use. Namely razors such as, Slim Fat Tech Krona It used to be that newbies wo...

"What causes some members to discontinue posting? Is there a clearing at the end of the path?" Where are you on this path? Perhaps it is because they have said all they have to say and learned enought to get consistently great shaves? Shaving is not terribly complicated, and is a skill re...

Re: What I learned in 7 years away from the shaving forums

It's silly to blame and condemn the "forums" (a euphemism for "us"). Blaming the retailers is less than rational. I wouldn't say we are the forums, although we certainly are a very important part. "We" also do not equally determine the tone and direction a forum...

Re: Also new to this forum

Look at it this way. The engineers and the men who built the hoover dam used DE and Straight razors to shave. The hoover dam has endured. So using a safety razor results in a dam fine shave? The engineers who built, designed, maintained something called "challenger" and ran the machines t...

Re: Why Synthetic?

I do not have a large collection of brushes. Like 3 boar and 5 badger in best and silvertip variety. Do not use the boars very often because I have moved to more of a cream rather than soap user. Still use MWF and Tabac soaps. I am satisfied with all my badgers and use the two best badgers the most...

Re: The benefit of in-person shopping

I agree very much that there are benefits to the brick and mortar shopping experience. Just like always, some businesses come and go while others remain. The London Bathecary stores might be gone, but Maggards opened up and Q Brothers in Chicago became a separate, expanded store. Most people prefer ...

Re: Target wants to hear from wetshaving enthusiasts

It looks like Mr. Target Wetshaving got promoted to Petcare, so we probably won't be seeing much of him anymore. At least he reached out to us. Sure, he was after profit, but so are the wetshaving retailers favored on the forums. The Pacific Caffeinated shaving cream they sell is pretty good.

they aren't going to reintroduce the de razor by Gillette again. no profit whatsoever. sure the india market has the low cost tech clones. but that market is currently being pushed into a plastic twin blade cartridge system last I checked. I didn't mean to suggest that a Super Adjustable re-introud...

Re: What I learned in 7 years away from the shaving forums

those are universal truths. a few dependable shaving rigs, blades, and soap or creams are all you really need. No need to go buy something just because they added a new scent. A lot of the forums and retailers do seem to be set up in a way to make a new person become a one man/one shopping trip inc...
