Long time no see, guys! The Feather w/ the super pro blades was my daily shave for about two years, then I moved on to straights for a goodly while, then I had a broken collarbone repaired, and moved back to the Feather to avoid the strop. Somewhere in there, when I broke the collarbone, maybe, I ha...

Coworker gift

I need to get a gift for a female coworker. Last year an assortment of Claus Porto soaps (the big ones) went over fairly nicely.

If I go for a Kent ST14 hair brush this year, is the quality apparent, or will this look and feel like a drugstore hairbrush?

Thanks

GA, You don't want the Kent wooden bowl, trust me. It's poor quality and not worth having. Just get the soap, and put it in something else. Regards, Gordon Ditto. This is why they're selling them so inexpensively on the ebay store though. For me, since my soap dishes barely get wet, the cheap Kent ...

I'd wager someone is hacking the pHp. This is commonly done to increase search engine hits at the spamming site.

I think Cabela's has no equal for size availability. Not that I need them, but the hiker pants I just bought (love these, by the way-- no Velcro on the many pockets, which I hate, and available with toasty warm linings) for $30 come in waist sizes up to 52" (at the same price!!), and stuff to 5...

Honestly, I've never been attracted to artisan products. People talk about how nice they shave, and how good they smell, but I've never been tempted to try them. They might be the best products in the world, for I know, but I've never had the urge to delve into that area. Obviously, given this, I ha...

Back to basics

I have a working theory that people fall in love with products they happen to be using when all the stars align from them, and their skill catches up with their method. This doesn't mean that the products we swear by are that much better than the old standbys. For example, I've been shaving with str...

LL Bean is a fine shop, and the man was a fine shoemaker/salesman. I still use them for Wading Boots, as I don't feel guilty returning them if I don't like them after trying them out. That's what their warranty is all about. Cabelas runs less expensive, with less fancy detail on their house label st...

Scott, From what I've seen here, and at SRP, that seems often to be the case. My theory is that traditional straights not being as sharp as DE blades, the open razor shaver often does not WANT quite as much cushion. For example, you'll note that the most vocal advocate of those Valobra shave sticks...

There was a Dr. Moss method of using facial soap to wash your face and then not rinsing it all off, and lathering cream on top of it, and the Musgo facial soap would probably be good for that [I'm guessing - I don't have it.] But there is no such thing as a Musgo shaving soap, and usually uberlathe...

About three years ago basenotes was a very interesting and knowledgable site. But today it's dumbed down dreadfully. Here's a topic from last year: 'What to wear when you're feeling unwell' jeez... Everyone's got their schticks. I bet it wouldn't take too long to find "Shaving with a cold"...
