Proper Use of GEM razor

http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/365/55982714.jpg I have seem much discussion about the use of GEM razors. I use one and this is the technique I use. I started wet shaving with a GEM many years ago and like them. I am sure there are other techniques but this is from an old package and seems to wo...

I got this off a post at B&B. I use GEMs and have never used the flat against the face technique. This seemed to confirm my style. The GEMs are a fine razor, just get good blades. I use one in my regular rotation.

New Bull Mastiff

Recently got a Bob's Razor Bull Mastiff. A thing of beauty with its knurled handle and its replated NEW head. It also gives a great shave. My usual razor is a'47 SuperSpeed. I think this must be more "aggressive" than my SS, I've had to adust my technique so I don't get the dreaded irritat...

I use these blades, the red pack Personnas. I find them very usable. In fact, I shaved my beard yesterday and got a BBS in 2 passes on the previously unshaved part. And this was not a new blade. I've used Astras, Derbys, and WS and like them fine, but the Personnas do as well for a significantly che...

I use Pure, not Extra Virgin, olive oil. Less competing aroma. I massage that in and lather over the top, usually a Body Shop Maca Root natural cream. I use an EJ sythetic fibre brush and it doesn't do anything to it. This makes a slick surface and leaves my face very soft and clean, not oily at all...

So it is SOTD, and mine was: Prep: Shower, hot towel Brush: Edwin Jagger Synthetic Fibre Lather: Body Shop Maca Root cream Razor: Gem Micromatic SE Blade: Gem Personna AS: Thayers with aloe vera, Dr Bronners/Sundog organic Patcho...

The Tech is of course the mildest, but the old SuperSpeed, the '40's style, have just enough to be good shavers without being nasty about it and easy on the face, I sometimes get minor irritation when I use my Fatboy dialed up, but not the superspeeds.

It's nice to see someone else who wants as natural a product as they can get for the face. I have not used it for my shave, but have used it for many other things, including minor abrasions. Very healing. I would think it would be best after the shave, but it is slick. Can't see why it wouldn't work...

I have very hot water, volcanic geothermal, and I just wet a towel with as hot as I can stand water and hold in on my face for a minute, then do it again. (This is only if I shave without the benefit of a shower.) Sometimes I use a little pure, not extra virgin (has more aroma), olive oil and then l...

I keep 9 razors out in ssilcox plactic holders and use them. It is fairly easy to remember them, the extras go in the drawer and then every couple of months I go through them and sell off a couple, as I always seem to be acquiring new ones. I have mostly Gillettes so I just keep track of the date co...

It depends. With the Fatboy at 6, I can 2 pass, one XTG and one ATG. With a SS I usually can 3 pass, one XTG and 2 ATG. Both yield a DFS to a BBS shave.

I bought 100 of the red pack Personnas and I have been very happy with them. Use them in my Gillettes and find them sharp and long lasting.

FS: Gillette Flair Tip SuperSpeed Near Mint

I have a used '66 L1 Flair Tip SS for sale due to, wife says, too many razors. OK, maybe. Anyway, this is near mint/excellent condition with no issues other than it has been used and shows minor signs of use. Doors are shiny and open, close and tighten properly. No brassing on doors or handle. A nic...

The handle has minor wear. It's a great shaver that looks good, too. $15 PayPal shipped to conus, other...

I, too, cut myself. Usually the result of inattention. One must be aware that you have a razor in your hand, and they are sharp. Each stroke is important, because as soon as you don't pay attention, you'll get bit.

Prep, prep and prep. Then lather. Then take the time, become one with the shave. You don't have to cut yourself.

For a gentle shave I can turn to a Tech or a 40's SuperSpeed. The Tech is the gentler, while still shaving smooth. I've been using a Fatboy at 6 lately, but my real go to razor is the '48-50 SuperSpeed.
