Re: Wet Shaving and the Internet

I was perusing another forum today, and laughing as I read the nonsense that is being posted about the past. ... Maybe I'll collate and write it all out for publication after I'm gone, or just be available for interview. I'm working on an article for Sharpologist tentatively titled "How To Nav...

Specs For The Newbie?

I'm doing some initial background research for a possible article. For you straight razor shavers who have experience with non-vintage razors, what specs do you generally suggest to the "newbie?" From what I've gathered so far it seems like the "conventional wisdom" is for someth...

Re: Quickest Solution For Razor Burn?

Mantic, I'm curious if what you mean by "get rid of" means tone the face or actually subdue irritation (which may not tone the skin)? I am not a balm user so I can't offer any insight on those but still I'm curious as I believe that soothing may not be the same as toning. On the alcoholic...

Care to weigh in on the physiological process of razor burn that I can quote (or at least paraphrase) in the article?

Quickest Solution For Razor Burn?

Hi All-- I'm starting to do some research for a Sharpologist article about which aftershave balms work best to get rid of razor burn the quickest. I'm specifically thinking of burn (redness, irritation) vs. shave bumps or ingrowns. Please suggest some products I can purchase to test. Also interested...

Can anyone do a side-by-side comparison of the BK4 vs. the BK8 vs. the BK12? I figured if someone had all three it'd be one of you guys.

Re: Another $300 razor, with a surprising blade

. . . . I am wondering if they are redesigning the OneBlade to prevent the use of modified GEM Blades? Mark, this came up in another current SMF thread, and it does raise a very important possibility. Do you have any information in this regard? Yesterday I had a new "OneBlade V2" and one ...

Re: Another $300 razor, with a surprising blade

Mark, do you have any inside information from or about the news that the company has now increased their price 33% from $299 to $399, and acknowledging there were some design flaws in the first production run (now sold out) that is in direct contradiction of their previous statements that the origi...

Re: For the Old Timers: Best Value* Wet Shaving Products?

Brush: Tweezarman badger brush. Mine is several years old now. It is what I use when I am on the road, like today. It looks pretty beat up but still performs nicely. I bought it at Target for about $12.00. Tweezerman dropped their original badger brush for a new model that is built better but also ...

Re: For the Old Timers: Best Value* Wet Shaving Products?

As far as a razor goes, I think it's worth the money to buy a Merkur Progress, which covers everything from mild to aggressive - and does it effectively, to avoid buying multiple razors with fixed heads until one finds the one that's right. Interesting, I hadn't thought about it in that way before....

For the Old Timers: Best Value* Wet Shaving Products?

I would like to ask the wet shavers who have been in the niche' a while what NON ARTISAN products they think represent a "best value" (great deal, best bang for the buck, punch above their weight, etc.) in old school wet shaving. I want to specifically exclude artisan products to make it m...

Looking For The Old Timers

Hi Gents-- The tenth anniversary of my first wet shaving video on Youtube is coming up next month (!) and I would like to do some related articles on Sharpologist. I'm looking for the fellows who have been around for the past 10-15 years to do some compare/contrast of the "hobby" then vs. ...

Interesting comments, thanks. I think vintage Injector's deserve a spot in my article too. Not sure about the adjustable (Fat Boy, Slim) though--the additional mechanics concern me.

Most "Reliable" Vintage DE's?

I'm working on a future article for Sharpologist about vintage DE's. However vintage items are not really "my thing" so I'm doing some research. What do you consider the most popular, "reliable" vintage DE's that might be reasonably easy to find. Gillette Superspeed's (particular...

Single blade? Pivot?? http://sharpologist.com/2010/12/testing-gillette-guard.html Absolutely. Different sides of the same coin. One is aimed at the very lowest end, the other at the luxury end. (BTW, IMO the Guard could be made even better if they made the blade in the cartridge a "slant"...

Re: Another $300 razor, with a surprising blade

Mark, I believe you. This is a metallic device that holds a razor blade in such a manner that the operator can remove hair periodically as it perpetually continues to grow. This description fits 'em all, making them all great. I think they should give me one of these at no cost. Or, offer to trade ...
