Re: Anybody got an Apple watch?

Sure, Squire. You can dictate a note to the Apple robot, Siri, exactly as Perry Mason dictated letters to Della Street.

Re: Anybody got an Apple watch?

No typing is done on the watch. Input is by pressing an icon or block of text, or by dictation. Skinny fingers will have no problems.

Re: Anybody got an Apple watch?

While I'm sympathetic to the Luddite/troglodyte mentality - and am subject to it myself on occasion - I must admit that the internet has changed my life for the better. Who would want to be without email? Or without the ability to inform ourselves in advance about a business or other organization we...

Re: Anybody got an Apple watch?

My enthusiasm for the Watch has waned in the days since my initial post. I think the attraction was to the gadget freak in me: the Apple Watch is, truthfully, a gadget for the ages. In one minuscule package we have a device that can do much of what the iPhone itself can do. Many of the reviews on Yo...

Re: Anybody got an Apple watch?

Murray, I follow the same principle as you: I consider whether I'd benefit from a new technology before I purchase it. I couldn't find a reason to buy an iPod and skipped it; I passed over the iPad and have never missed it. Ditto all social networking apps: I subscribed to Facebook and Twitter and t...

Re: Anybody got an Apple watch?

The reviewers say that text is perfectly readable on the Apple Watch. But the idea is not to do extensive reading but to check quick messages and such. More involved work will always be done on the phone with its larger screen and on-screen keyboard. The watch can indeed be used à la Dick Tracy or M...

Re: Anybody got an Apple watch?

It was easy for me, like others here, to dismiss smartwatches as unnecessary gadgets when they first appeared. After all, a smartwatch can't do anything that a smartphone can't do (except for measuring heart rate and the like). But now that I've looked into the question, I see that the watch can sim...

Anybody got an Apple watch?

I'm pretty well tethered to my iPhone, but I can see still further advantages in the Apple watch because it would cover those occasional times when the tether is broken. In the shower, for instance. (The watch is water-resistant.). More practically, several times a week I receive a call while I have...

Re: Age spots

For what it's worth, I've noticed a reduction in age spots in the last two years, while using exclusively Mitchell's Wool Fat bath soap on body, face, and hands. Who knows if there's a connection, but there you are.

Re: Review: TOBS Lime Luxury Shaving Soap

Ron - I'm working on a Harris Lavender refill which I obtained last month from Bullgoose. It's satisfactory in every way. I was a bit apprehensive when I ordered, because my previous cake, which I got in 2011, had not a trace of lavender in the scent. But this one is fine. A stick-on label on the bo...

Re: Tabac

Tabac was one of my early favorites after joining SMF. I went through the jar in a couple of years, then never thought to reorder it. Well, I just have, reestablishing my bond with the stuff after a long hiatus. The lather is superb, of course, but it's that rare fragrance which so distinguishes thi...

Re: Review: TOBS Lime Luxury Shaving Soap

I've just shaved with the Taylor Luxury Lime soap. Gary did not exaggerate the quality of the lather. Trumper really needs to go back to the drawing boards (or back to its older formulas) if it hopes to compete with the likes of this. Scent-wise the lime is understated, which is exactly what I had h...

How is the fragrance of Schafmilch, Gary? To me the scent of MWF is its best feature.

Re: How reliable are Trumper's soaps these days?

I decided to heed the advice of the skeptics and take a pass on the current version of GFT Limes. In its stead I've ordered the TOBS Luxury Lime soap which Gary has so eloquently recommended.

Re: the FAT

For the last three years my puck of THE FAT has lived in a Tabac ceramic bowl. Oh the shame! Today I ordered a fresh puck in a proper MWF ceramic bowl. That's the only way to go.

Re: How reliable are Trumper's soaps these days?

That is certainly true about soap scents irrespective of make. Regarding lackluster performance I see Williams shaving soap widely panned yet I have no difficulty making a very serviceable lather from it. I notice a good bit of chatter on these Boards are posters repeating what they've read rather ...

Re: How reliable are Trumper's soaps these days?

Squire, I'd be happy to stick with Phil if his turnover is pretty fast. I've ordered quite a bit from him before. As for David's suggestion of the GFT Limes cream, I have a tube of it and find it perfectly satisfactory. The scent, however, differs from the soap. This is something that I have noticed...

Re: How reliable are Trumper's soaps these days?

Which vendors are likely to have the most up-to-date stock? If I knew that, I would request that they select from the very latest stock they have. Otherwise I might get a cake of soap from the same manufacturing lot as Gary's dismal soap.

Re: How reliable are Trumper's soaps these days?

Not what I wanted to hear, Gary. I crave the powdery lime fragrance of the Limes soap. I may just take one for the team.

How reliable are Trumper's soaps these days?

I recall that a few years ago GFT was turning out soaps that lathered very poorly. Eucris was a notorious offender, but it wasn't the only one. There were complaints about Coconut, Limes, and perhaps others. I want to reorder some of my favorites from the past, including Violet, Coconut, and Limes, ...
