Re: gillette takes a hit

Wow! Can't imagine what you get for the money you pay for those few Harry's or Dollar Store blades! For $16 I could probably get 50 Gillette Rubies, an excellent blade yielding about 10 shaves each for me!

Mitchell's Wool Fat and Hard Water

Any one have any comments on how well (or not) MWF does in hard water? The Fine Vetiver I bought is doing well, as are several others. But I got to thinking about trying MWF again. And that often spells buying something!

Re: Vetiver

I very recently purchased Guerlain Vetiver. I do not have any experience with vetiver at all, except for a few samples some time ago. I find the Guerlain very nice for a summer scent, economical, and I am very satisfied with it. Even bought a tub of Fine vetiver shaving soap and Fine Green Vetiver A...

Re: Vetiver

Shaved with Fine Green Vetiver shaving soap this morning. Scent was very nice. Lather was nice but I am sure would have been wonderful if I still had soft water. Nonetheless, had a very nice, two-pass shave. Face-feel after the shave was also nice. And, Tim, your suggestion on the lather spill-over ...

Re: Vetiver

Thanks, Tim. I will try. Thought about using my Walmart sugar bowl, but want to be able to take the puck with me in my dop kit. But, boy, do I have my doubts that spill-over suds are going to fit this gap!

Re: Vetiver

The Fine Green vetiver shaving soap (in container) just arrived. Smells great. Do foresee a problem lathering since the puck is loose in the container; about 3/8 free space between puck and container. How am I going to get the puck to "stick"? Thought about grating some to fill up the empt...

Re: Vetiver

Thanks, Gary. I did check Smallflower's for vetiver bath soap, and they have several. Or I may just wait until I have a chance to go to T.J. Maxx to check there (usually inexpensive if they have the stuff you want). And I think I may try the Fine Green Vetiver shaving soap. Have never used Tabac sha...

Re: Vetiver

Just checked out the Fine Accoutrements website! And then went to resniff my Fine Green Vetiver aftershave (very nice). Is it safe to say that the shaving soap scent matches the aftershave? The aftershave certainly goes nicely with my Guerlain Vetiver.

Re: Vetiver

I didn't realize Fine made a shaving soap. Will definitely check that out. And tomorrow is going to be my big experiment using distilled water to try to beat this hard water dilemma! Did find Calgon at the commissary today but not citric acid. But want to try distilled water before I get too involve...

Re: Vetiver

Gary, what was the hand soap you discovered? And how are you liking Morning Ghost? I am tempted to get Morning Ghost to go with my Guerlain Vetiver, but hate to buy it in the blind. Plus I am trying to overcome my forced introduction to hard water. (Moved into an assisted living place that doesn't h...

Re: Want to buy --- Guerlain Vetiver

I just bought a bottle of Guerlain Vetiver from one of the discounters. Inexpensive and I absolutely love it! If you want an matching aftershave, I recommend Fine Green Vetiver which can order from Walmart. Oh, Walmart also has a very good price on Perma-Sharp Super blades.

Re: Art of Shaving Sandalwood tallow NOS soap

Just received my first puck of AoS NOS Sandalwood yesterday, and inaugurated it this morning. I must say that it is as close to sandalwood as any soap I have tried, but still lacks depth of what I would consider to be true sandalwood. I personally find the scent strength on the light side, but not t...

Re: Gillette Platinum-Plus blade from Brazil

Shaved this morning with the Brazilian (thanks, Gary!). Used it on two day stubble with my DE89. Found it sharp and smooth, perhaps a tad smoother than my usual first shave with a new Super Iridium. Will see how the week progresses with it.

Re: Platinum & Rubie Platinum Plus

Interesting! But your Russian Rubie Platinum Plus were counterfeit? And still perform well? Just checked ebay and what are being advertised as Rubie Platinum Plus blades from Russian right now are $1 per blade.

Re: Mitchell's Wool Fat

Interesting thought, Squire! I do use several other soaps that list lanolin as an ingredient without the sensation, but I suppose the percentage of lanolin could make the difference. Like I said earlier, it is not a "pain" so it is not going to keep me from using MWF!

Re: Mitchell's Wool Fat

Used MWF a couple days in a row now, and noticed something I had either not noticed before or had forgotten. It causes a slight burning sensation on my face. I know it isn't the shave because it happens as soon as I apply the lather. Not bad; just noticeable. Any ideas why the burn?

Re: Current T.O.B.S. soap ---

Truly enjoy the scent of my TOBS Sandalwood soap. It does tend to dry out on me during the shave, probably my fault for not using enough water. And it does leave my face feeling drier than some other soaps do following the shave. Would like to find a less drying soap with the same scent.

Re: Mitchell's Wool Fat

Was about to give away my half-used puck of MWF, then broke it out yesterday to use. And used it again today. Forgot how much I loved the scent and enjoyed the shave. Perhaps I will have to replace it when I eventually wear it down to nothing.
