Re: Ultimate Honing
The Gokumyo is such a slow hone that it doesn't seem to risk over-honing to go to higher numbers of passes. I can't say the Arkansas stone is better than the Naniwas, just more convenient. To be honest, it really amuses me that there is an Arkansas stone out there that works on razors at all, as mo...

Re: Alert to all, bogus web seller....
That is a shame. In the past I bought some balsa bench strops from this fellow, and had a very positive experience. Most recently, I bought my first inexpensive synthetic brush from _____, through ebay. At that time he was quick to communicate and I learned that he makes some of the items he sells....

Maybe a new theory here (for me anyway) ...specific hone and razor combinations have an optimum pressure that is not necessarily the lightest possible. Lighter or heavier than optimum pressure leads to burring so that the bevel intersection is not optimum. I'm sorry, I don't understand your logic. ...

I am interested in the best way you have found to use your Swaty. I have one that I have recently lapped, and I want to be able to put it to good use on my straights. Some people recommend using it dry but I've never seen the benefit of that. I prefer to use it wet with slightly soapy water. If you...

I for one would love to read some posts from guys who are doing it the simple and old-fashioned way, and are getting the results they want. That would be me. I have a rotation of 7 razors in my gym locker that I have maintained for over 5 years with nothing but a Swaty. The shave with those razors ...

I disagree. Honing is not rocket science. I got by for several years with nothing more than a Swaty. It doesn't have to be complicated and shavers 100 years ago did not mail out their razor to a honemeister. They figured it out for themselves and made it work. Maybe the edge won't be as good as what...
