Re: Wedding scent suggestions please
I don't mean to start a blood feud or anything. But Old Spice for me is the family male's version of our family cooking. My mother has cookbooks so old they list how to prep a raccoon-seriously, and on to Pepin. And what gets cooked? A meatloaf that has remained unchanged and unchangeable since WW1 ...

Re: Pocket Knife Blades
There is but one logical course of action with a knife hating woman. BUY HER ONE. there are several for the ladies. Just don't go the Barbie, Hello Kitty route.
There are so many knives out there it can be overwhelming.
A FUN website with some interesting knives is www.ragweedforge.com

Lumiere- I was spritzed walking through a store today and FOR ONCE wasn't mad. Then I saw how much I couldn't afford it and REALLY got mad.
Old Spice? RE-A-LL-Y darlings, that is so common. This is an uncommon day for Sam & daughter.

I donated much of my early and excess kit to a local shelter. I was nearly homeless at one point. One of the hurdles those folk face is simple hygiene and the disenfranchisement it creates. Then again, some of the 'effluent' yuppies around here have taken slovenliness to a new level.

Re: What are you reading?
Gary, I was at the Huntington Library. I mentioned to a docent how much I loved his lifestory. She ushered me into the collections and I was allowed to see- not touch, their collection of 1st editions. Most of his books went unsold. He was infamous for massive footnoting and making references in mul...

I retrieved an unopened bar of ORGANIC BLACK AFRICAN SOAP today from our Apt dumpster ( along with some books posted in another thread.) It's a nice, shea butter product without all the chemical stuff our parents didn't warn us about. They have a commendable program helping women and a wide variety ...

Re: What are you reading?
I just scored two finds in my apartment dumpster; Sir Richard Burtons' THE BOOK OF THE SWORD and a lovely edition of his 1001 ARABIAN NIGHTS ! Two oldies, but Pye and I reposed on my Persian rug, Rimsky-Korsakov's SHEHERAZADE on CD ,frankincense burning and drinking mint tea for an hour. I even plac...

Re: The silly thinks I thought and did at first
Squire, There is a classic british book on horsemanship by a cavalry officer later killed in the famous charge of the light brigades. It is little read today, but I remember one caustic comment in it. He said the French cavalry was in such poor condition they could literally SMELL them approaching w...

The silly thinks I thought and did at first
As I was shaving this morning, I looked at my kit with a sense of satisfaction and order. My mug, brush and razor all have matching Ivory components. The blades; in fair supply stored like Mauser 98s in an old war movie and a few bottles of scent gleaming in many colours, kaleidoscope like as a well...

Shaving kit tossed out?
One of the pleasures/pitfalls we all experienced was the assembly of our 'kit'- the razor/blades, soap/container, brush and scents. We have a lively niche economy going selling, trading & PIF the various brands we try. And then there are accessories; the faux tortoiseshell brush stand, magnetic ...

Re: Coffee cups as shaving mugs
Pyewacket decided to investigate the bathroom counter this A.M. I hear the familiar clamour of his studied mayhem and got up to investigate. I watched my new mug fly off the counter and land- intact in his litter tray. Then the little troublemaker climbed into his (freshly cleaned) litter tray and w...

Back on tea- My tea strainer arrived yesterday by post. The only straining It will ever do is my nerves #-o It was a humble S/S -what could go wrong with a bit of stamped steel? The 'two ladies' sent a substitute item of fine wire mesh that literally fell apart out of the box. My USA product was stam...

Russian trade ban items
Sigh, My gun nut friend from my gun nut days is screaming about Russian AK 47s being banned under the recent trade sanctions. I asked him Whatever happened to the Romanian paratrooper AK I sold you? ' [-X Now I'm panicking. Will Polsilvers be banned ? I don't want to start a feeding frenzy like the ...

Stilton is one of many foods ,like books I wasn't sure if I had tasted/read. So I was at Trader Joe's and saw this wedge with more blue veins than an Arizona copper mine and rind akin to a oakbark . I refuse to eat fast food anymore. I took Doctor Oz and friends for @ 3 months. Society embraces the ...

A pre formulation (tar) Vinolia gifted by another member found with the near empty WoW bottle. I've used tar based products for horses (also removed from market. The remarkable qualities of tar for skin care far outweighs the cancer risk we face from everything else.

Gary, THANKYOU for the link. My Jupiter was found in a used car lot in Simi Valley for $200. I couldn't afford the muscle cars and discovered brit cars were available for a song in comparison. It wore faded factory red paint and came witha 8 boxes of odd parts and a fitted hardtop. I would take it o...

Re: Brewing tea Question
They get that too. But NEVER call them the 'wee folk.' During High School a 7 ' Pooka helped push my Jowet Jupiter to the gas station when it ran out of gas ( lousy Lucas gauge connection) AND find 37 cents on the sidewalk to put gas in and drive from the beach home. This hippie girl asked for a rid...
