Welcome Gibbs/Vern! I'm 55, soon to be 56 (Sept. 55). Been wet shaving since I was about 14, except for a brief flirtation with the notorious Norelco triple-head in about 1979. (Ouch - I still remember the unique burn! She was a mean mistress.) Injectors, then disposable cartridges. I discovered thi...

razorburned, how long-lasting is your procedure when the razor is used frequently...any info on this? Thanks That's my overall question as well. I'm no expert, but I would think lacquer has got to be softer than gold. Therefore, I would think it would erode eventually. However, I can see where the ...

Razors - for me - are like fly rods and mechanical watches. To (badly) paraphrase a little green pointy-eared dude from a galaxy far away, "Have or have not. There is no too many." At last count I have about 20 razors (only three in rotation - the rest are awaiting CLR treatment) but only ...

Thanks for the info guys. I'll have to try that.

Next question - what would happen if you gold plated the razor and DIDN't lacquer it?

NOS Blades

I just scored roughly 200 NOS DE blades at an antique show this afternoon. (7) Gillette Thin Blades, in 10-blade box (65) indiv. wrapped Berkeley blades (22) 4-blade packs of Sheer Hair Spring Steel blades (1) multi-pack of Ranger double edge Blades - cellophane-wrapped (1) Gillette Blue Blade 5-bla...

Shaved yesterday with a Feather loaded into the Blue Tip from Bill Extraordinaire. (Is that really his last name? If not, it should be - the man is generosity itself. The razor was a birthday razor for me.) I gotta admit, the first shave led me to think that the Feather-Blue Tip combo is a team to b...

Re-lacquering Gold Razors?

Does anybody have pointers on re-lacquering gold plated razors (replated or original)?

E.g., brush? Airbrush? Other more exotic application? Type of lacquer?

Thanks!

+1, for sure! Although, I'm enjoying it, and learning at the same time.

Sure glad my avatar photo was taken outdoors in another country...

I've gotten several there, too, including a Milord and a bakelite handle Tech... Just picked up a bakelite handle Tech in one of the stores there yesterday. Found a vintage - maybe late 1800's - shaving mug too. I also saw a 1960's Super Speed, but it was bundled with an old brush (looked synthetic...

Yeah, I kind of figured that, but I had also considered replating this Old Style. Thus my comments - sorry, I wasn't real clear on that. Once I find time to clean up the NEW from last summer, I'll see how it looks, & whether it needs replating too. I do know multiple sources for plating, includi...

As it turns out, the etching is on the head, which I haven't seen before - even on old razors. Yeah, I've seen a lot of cracked handles. Almost makes me think there's a cottge industry to be had in producing new handles for some of these old razors, a la the Mergress. CooncatBob: Jumping up and dow...

By the way, what could cause such etching? Acidic skin oils? Old time shave products? Simple poor maintenance? I could see pitting from poor maintenance, but not this massive etching. My first thought was that the razor had been repurposed for something other than shaving. Wouldn't think so. Just a...

Paul, sorry to be delinquent in responding. Turns out I have a NEW that I picked up last summer. It's in the pile waiting to be cleaned. The Old Style I began this thread with is badly etched. I don't think plating would help it. I'd just be plating the hills and valleys. I've considered filing to t...

How about a RED Rolex Sub. Chrono.? :D J. John, scary thing is I think I could put that together for you! Only it wouldn't SAY Rolex. It would have the look though. (With respect to the Daytona - fine watch, but I never cared for the look of the newer ones.) That sort of FrankenWatch wouldn't be ch...

More on my experience with the notorious Feathers: Shaved yesterday with a brand new Feather blade in my trusty Gold Tech (ball end, of course). Pleaseant surprise, no blood, and quite a nice shave. Not quite BBS, but I think that was due to inexperience with the blade and brow-sweating fear that my...
