Re: Amazing Shaves From My Oldest Blades

Pete, I am in the middle of an experience that parallels your own. Several days ago I spotted a well kept magazine of Gillette Superblues in my stash and loaded one up in a vintage (4th quarter 1959) RedTip...wanted to be chronologically correct  . I had two excellent shaves with this combo, t...

Re: L'Occitane Rich Shaving Cream (new)

To keep the price in perspective, Cade cream is $28.00 for 5.2oz (147.4 grams). Tabula Rasa runs $31.50 for 90 grams, D.R. Harris is $30.00 for 150 grams, AOS is $25.00 for 5oz tub and Pens. runs $40.00 for 5oz tube.

Re: L'Occitane Rich Shaving Cream (new)

The reformulated cream can be identified by the product number on the end of the box it comes in. For the good stuff, that number should be 164853. The number can be found just to the right of the bar code.

Re: L'Occitane Rich Shaving Cream (new)

The L'Occitane shave cream in a tube was reformulated over a year ago and is now a very fine product in every way.

Re: My fiance got me a Marfin for my B-Day!!!

Squire... With some embarrassment I must admit I do not have the tech horsepower to post pics. ..never spent the time to learn; lazy I guess. Anyway the pics on the IB site are quite good and representative. The flame grain briar is stunning. When I was looking at the Marfin pics. a few months ago, ...

My fiance got me a Marfin for my B-Day!!!

And I am thrilled. If you want to see; go to http://www.italianbarber.com ...click on brushes...click on Marfin...go to page 3 lower right 09=57...just a beauty to hold, behold and use. The loft is about 60mm and knot probably 26mm with the handle around 65-70mm (to excited to measure  ). It i...

Nivea Sensitive Shaving Cream

Picked up a tube (3.5 0z.) of this new product at my local Safeway recently. On sale it was $2.99; I think the regular price is $3.99. The scent is what I call Nivea generic; which I quite like...pleasant and unobtrusive. I lathered it up in a DB scuttle, and the lather really popped. I used a largi...

Re: Gillette Pivot Ball Razor - Stop The Insanity Already

From looking at the link, the new razor will use ProGlide blades (I believe Gordon thought it only has a single blade because he may have been looking at the back of the cart. and only seeing the trimmer blade), and the manual version will cost around $12.00...not a huge amount of $ considering what...

Re: Speaking of exotics (see Wilborg below)

John are you saying these Marfin brushes are made by Wilborg? No, I just misspelled "Wiborg" in the subject line. As Brothers says, they are made by Marco Finaldi. I think I could live happily with the freeform shape as long as I picked my brush carefully (one that appears ergonomic)...th...

Speaking of exotics (see Wilborg below)

Has anyone seen the Marfin brushes on www.Italianbarber.com ? The handles are beautiful & interesting, and the knots I assume are top drawer. Anyone have one of these?
That would be Wiborg  .

Re: In Praise of the Red Tip

I've got a Red Tip from late '59 and it is on my short list of faves. I generally like fairly aggressive razors (Cobra, Futur on 3 or 3.5, OC Micromatic) and find the RT to be less aggressive than those mentioned; though by no means a truly mild razor... just more forgiving. Maybe it's more than jus...

Re: Home blending of scents

I have tried it once, and it turned out rather well. I think if you work with a simple scent (only a single note or two) it improves your chances for success...in my case it was sandalwood  . I blended 5 parts Meehan's Bonny Doon Farm Sandalwood Cologne with 3 parts SCS Sandalwood edt from wo...

RazoRock Colognes

Has anyone tried the RazoRock line of colognes? The prices are excellent, and if they are worthy...could be a great value. Naturally, I am particularly interested in the sandalwood.

Re: anyone try art of shaving Balm?

I very much like the AOS sandalwood balm, but must agree that it is pretty heavy. My solution to this is to use a small dab, and apply to a "wettish" face. This seems to work well, and makes for a very fine winter ASB. I also use the lighter scentless Clinique Healer which is also a top ti...

Re: OCMM - a plague of worn out old razors

Gary, Glad to hear you finally got an OCMM in good shape, and that you like it. I've had a fine one for several years, and it is an important part of my rotation. I find that when used properly...correctly seated shave quality blade, well tightened head and a light touch; that the shave quality riva...

Re: Minimalist Shaving with Kiehl's Blue Eagle shave cream

This product would have come in handy long ago during my military time in the field when water was limited. Back then, I actually used a windup mechanical rotary shaver. Today, it does not make a lot of sense to me. Cremo (or any good brushless...Avalon...Lloyd's Euxesis  ...whatever) work ver...

Re: Sandalwood Scents

I have tried several, and the scent I like the very best is the sandalwood from AOS. The cream is of the highest quality, and the scent is warm, mellow and to my nose, a true sandalwood with no lesser notes to cloud the issue. I also like their sandalwood soap, mine is tallow based and not the curre...

Re: Modern TTO razors

I sort of suspected that the older TTOs were/are better than the newer versions. With that in mind, I have decided to control myself and stick with the razors I currently own. As mentioned above, I own a RedTip, a Super Adjustable and also an OC Micromatic...all in excellent condition. This may put ...
