Astra Superior Platiunm vs. Astra Superior Stainless
Astra SP's (Green/ White) are some of the most well regarded blades on the shaving forums. They are hugely popular, but they have never seemed to work for me. I've tried them in a variety of different razors, and they seem smooth, but very dull to me. However, I tried the Asta SS (Blue/ White) in a ...

Revisiting Derby Extra Blades
I have a stash of about 200 Derby Extra Blades. I find them somewhat harsh in certain razors like the EJ DE89L. However, I am finding that they work wonderfully in mild razors, such as my Feather AS-D2 and the Rockwell 6s on R2. They are really sharp to perform this well in mild razors for me. If yo...

Re: The Colonial General Razor
It really is a favorite razor of mine. So much so, that I purchased a second to keep at my parents house. Word is that brass and stainless versions are to follow. It is a very mild razor. If I had to find a criticism, it is that it is somewhat tuggy on a multi-day stubble, but if you have a 24 hour ...

Re: Kai Captain Titan Mild "Pink" blades
Good update Gary. I am glad you like the General. I tried the Kai Mild Pink blades in the General, and they were certainly adequate. However, I preferred the Feather Professionals in the General. I only use a SE Blade six times flipping it after three uses. However, I thought the Kais did shine in t...

Re: Comment on using up products
It can be a challenge to touch all of the products in one's shave den. The creams don't last long, then the croaps, and lastly the hard soaps last the longest. I have about a dozen products in use right now, and don't intend on replacing all of them once depleted. It can be very satisfying to use up...

Re: Gillette Platinum-Plus blade from Brazil
Well I finally got around to revisiting the Gillette Platinum-Plus blade from Brazil. I used a fresh one in a 1960's Metal Tip Schick Krona. I had a delightful shave other than the TTO knob coming loose periodically. Earlier, I had tried this blade in modern razors. It appears that for me, this blad...

Re: My current soap and cream rotation
I really need to try the TOBS Creams, as they are a classic that Gordon used to extol the virtues of. They even make an unscented version. I also need to get some more Body Shop Maca Root. It really is excellent!

My current soap and cream rotation
I have always been fixated on hardware, but I am finally venturing into software. Please keep in mind that I have hard water, but I am now using Distilled Water to enhance my lathers. Here's what I currently have: JM Fraser's Original: This is made in Canada and comes in a large tub for a reasonable...

Re: And here we are ---
Gary, glad you like that Colonial General Head. Rumor has it that a brass version is in the works. It is a near perfect razor, and I love the Feather Pro's with it. I am one that has always been focused on hardware. Now I am venturing into software. I took your advise and got some Palmolive Original...

Gary, it looks like the pic links in this thread are no longer working. Just so I understand, are you using Cleansing Cream as Shaving Cream?

Re: Omega Shave Soap
I finally got around to trying this, and it is very good. I got a good lather by mixing Distilled Water with our hard water. I liked the Eucalyptus Scent, and it reminded me of something the ancient egyptians would have used. The other product that I tried today was Valobra Almond with is the soft v...

Re: Razorock Hawk
I finally got around to trying the Razorock Hawk with a Kai Captain Mild Blade. I have exclusively only used Feather Guarded Blades in the Hawk, with no desire to try the Feather Professional unguarded blades in it. The Kai Captain Mild Blade was the equal of the Feather ProGuard in every respect, a...

Re: Gordon or Bernards66
I miss Gordon. He was referenced several times on Corey Greenberg's Shaveblog. I think that he was a mentor to many of us, and he helped me out with my traditional wet shaving journey. One thing that I admired about him was that he never got into RAD. OTOH, he was willing to try new products, and ga...

Re: Is the Kent BK4 still a good buy?
I have the Kent BK4, and it is a good buy with the price of the Pound vs. the Dollar. However, I much prefer my Kent Infinity Silvertex Brush at a fraction of the price of the BK4. It really is a wonderful synthetic brush.

Re: The Colonial General Razor
Murray, I tired the General with a Kai Captain Mild Blade, and the shave went well. There was not a big discernable difference between the Kai Blade and the Feather Professional (unguarded) blade in this razor. I still got a great, drama-free shave, but it was ever so slightly not as sharp as the Fe...

Re: The Colonial General Razor
Murry, my apologies, as I missed your question late last month. I got six wonderful shaves with the Colonial General, and it is very mild with the Feather Pro Blades! I recently acquired some Kai Mild Blades from Amazon which shipped from Japan. I will try one in the General and report back their pe...
