Re: Focus R48 Dynamic SE Razor

Yes, his videos are helpful, and you definitely want to engage the pivot. I thought about the pressure as I was shaving tonight, and to me it reminds me of my cartridge shaving days.

Re: Focus R48 Dynamic SE Razor

I do a two-pass shave, predominantly North to South, with some XTG strokes during the second pass in areas where I know that I can get away with it. I use short strokes. This razor likes a thinner, somewhat runny lather. I change blades every 2-3 shaves. I use a bit of pressure, but not much. I rins...

Re: Focus R48 Dynamic SE Razor

Interesting, I haven't experienced any nicks with the Focus R48, but I haven't tried sharp blades in it. Just Derby Extra and Sharks. I find the razor to be mild and easy to use. It is not a BBS shave for me, but I can get a DFS out of it.

Gary, I find Feather Pro's to be a real bargain on Amazon. 20 for around $11 or so.

Re: Straight razors meet The General by Colonial

Gary, you've always been a member here that "when you talk, I listen." I think this is quite a shaving journey for you that resulted in favoring the Colonial General above all others. I got a kick out of you secreting one in a bank savings deposit box which is something that I would do. Yo...

Re: Kai Original Captain blade

Gary, interesting to hear your impressions of the Original Captain blades that I have not tried yet. In the Colonial General SS and Aluminum versions, I prefer the Feather Pro over the Kai Mild Pink blades. However, in the RazoRock Hawk, I prefer the Kai Mild Pink. In the Ikon MR-SE (El Jefe V2), I ...

Re: Focus R48 Dynamic SE Razor

Yes, I have the raw aluminum version, and ordered from the Superior Shave. It is a nice razor with a pivot. I have only used it with Derby Extra and Lord Super Barber blades which are sold in 100 packs and are sold already broken in half. However, the intent is to break DE Blades in half, but for so...

Re: My adventure with a Muhle R41

I've never tried this particular razor, and I have no desire to. However, in aggressive razors, I have found either the Dorco ST-300, Dorco ST-301, or the Personna Red works well.

Re: Shaving with a Schick Type D Injector and other early injectors

Paul, I've shaved with the butterscotch bakelite handled ones. They are somewhat aggressive, and provide a close shave. I used the Chinese Schick blades. You just have to be mindful of the blade angle relative to your face. Let us know how it goes.

Re: In Praise of the Ordinary Razor

I have the Rockwell 6s and the 6c in White Chrome. I prefer the 6s, as it is more grippy. The 6c is a bit slippery, but it hits a price point. The threads were real rough on the 6c, and I had to use a tap to chase the threads in the handle, and use some mineral oil. Other than that the finish is fla...

Re: Availability of Older Cartridge Razors in the US

I used the Schick Tracer FX for many years, but I found that they downgraded the quality in the early 2000's. They technology was later used in the Schick Exteme 3 disposables which I found excellent. They had a cartridge version of the Extreme 3, but I found it to not shave as well as the disposabl...

Re: OneBlade Core V2

That's a great question. I've only inserted a blade once in the V2, and it was effortless sliding right in. It didn't require much pressure to accomplish the insertion. The V1 was more finicky, in this regard, and the blade would get a bit lopsided as I tried to insert. As I recall, it required a bi...

OneBlade Core V2

I finally got around to trying the OneBlade Core V2 which was sent to me as a replacement for my V1 which I ultimately found to be exceedingly mild. Today, I used B & M Latha Unscented and an Omega Hi-Brush synthetic. Loading the Feather blade was easier than the V1 with the blade just sliding i...

Re: Pacific Double Edge Razor from DollarTree for $1

Yes, I will report back my impression of the blades. I didn't see the blades there for sale individually. However, I did enjoy the Chinese blades that came with my Ming Shi 2000s. My cheap travel razor is a Dorco PL-602 which is a wonderful, mild, polymer razor that is also worth trying. I leave my ...

Pacific Double Edge Razor from DollarTree for $1

I was at DollarTree today to purchase a pacifier for my three year old daughter. I always look at the shaving products, and I noticed the Pacific Double Edge Razor which comes with five double edge blades. I couldn't find it on their website, but I found the ebay link below to show you what it looks...

Re: Supply Provisions Injector Razor

Well I acquired the Supply Provisions V2. The aggression has been stepped up on the 3-Dot Plate, and the QC looked wonderful. I used a vintage Schick Platinum Plus Blade, and it delivers a good shave with a viscous shaving cream like The Body Shop Maca Root. I want to try Schick Proline Japanese bla...

Colonial General Stainless first shave

Weighing in at 122g and reining from China is the Colonial General Stainless. It is the Heavyweight Champion of my shaving den outweighing my Rockwell 6s and Supply Proviisons Injector V1. I have two of the aluminum versions, so I put in a Feather Professional which is my preferred blade. The head g...

Re: Recommend Me Razors

I have been collecting vintage razors for ten years now. Early on I did have a ghost experience in a new house. It might have been related to a razor that I brought into the house. Our normally Alpha Male cat freaked out, cowered, and followed something around the house that only he could see. It wa...

Re: Average number of Shaves on Artist Club Blades?

I use them for three shaves, then flip the blade for three more shaves, so a total of six shaves per blade. If I don't do this, I find that I get nicks on the fourth shave. This is just my observation, and experience. I don't bother flipping blades in DE Razors.
