Fresh Feather Ferocity

A couple years in with DE shaving and I still haven't tried Feathers, though I have a couple packs lying around. I've heard people say they're kind of rough with a fresh blade, and better for the following shaves. Do you just soldier through the first shave every time you change blades, or do you co...

Embrace its imperfections. Maybe even give it an appropriate nickname to seal the deal!

Must be the all aluminum one. A real lightweight, at 34 grams.

I haven't had the chance to try one myself, but they are very light, and I've heard they feel a little dinky because of it. They look nice though :P
I was tempted by a gold-anondized aluminum LD that was on Etsy. Might still be there.

If you do go for it, please report back.

A member over at straightrazorplace just informed me that camellia oil can gum up pretty bad over the long term, so I'll go with the mineral oil.

Thanks for the replies, guys! The jury is still out, and I think I might actually have a bottle of mineral oil without the extra "inactive ingredients" packed away somewhere, so I might still do that. I'll let you know what happens!

Camellia oil on a DE razor?

I have a razor whose TTO mechanism is a little stiff, so I thought I'd try some mineral oil on it. I noticed that the drugstore variety contains vitamin e, listed under inactive ingredients as a stabilizer, and I got hung up on whether to use that, or look for some without any additives, just pure m...

A good scale

I take it some of you have digital scales that allow you to weigh a razor in grams? I was wondering if anyone might have recommendations for a good brand or type to look for. Thanks.

Valobra scents

I'm interested in trying some Valobra soap, and I see they have almond and they have menthol scents (and I guess the shave stick is unscented?). I don't have a lot of comparisons I can draw on, so maybe you can help me out. The only almond soaps I've tried Cella and Col Conk. I found the Cella way t...

When I was looking to get started with SE razors, it seemed that the PTFE-coated Gems at Ted Pella got the most praise, so that's what I got, and they seem pretty good. I haven't tried any others though, so I guess I can't really confirm the opinion. Anybody here have an opinion on carbon steel SE b...

How many shaves in your SE blade?

How many good shaves do you usually get out of your SE blade? I've been using the coated stainless steel Gem blades from Ted Pella, usually doing a two-pass shave. I feel like there's a real noticeable decline in quality by the second day, but I'm not 100% sure I can blame the blade. Curious what ot...
