Interesting responses.

First off, I'm using an older Gillette Tech donated by a member here! :D
Pretty mild, right?

Second, someone said put this back in the drawer? How long do you guys use a DE razor for?

You guys were right!

To be honest, I thought you guys were just making some of this stuff up. You guys kept saying how this razor works for you and this one doesn't, etc and so on. I'm thinking... You guys are full of ____! It is a razor blade. It is sharp and cuts. There is no difference. Well, I'm on my third razor bl...

Good stuff for sure. I wasn't using enough water the first week and couldn't understand why I wasn't getting good lather. Now, it is great.

Been shaving for about 2 weeks now...

and you guys want me to report back and all. First off, I'm learning that it takes more water than I expected to build a good lather. Second, aggressive is in the angle. Third, I'm not consistent. Fourth, I get luck from time to time (like tonight) and have a baby smooth shave, like I've never had i...

Do you take apart your DE each time after shaving?

Guys, just wondering what you guys do after each shave.

Do you just rinse the razor (all still together) and let is sit, only taking it apart when you change blades?

Or do you take it apart after every shave and let it air dry?

Thanks,

-Mik

Thanks again everyone. I shaved last night and well, let's just say I had a few beers in me so I was more aggressive. It actually worked out really well! I had a very close shave. This time I went WTG and XTG. I had no irritation and a very close shave. I'm using a "Platinum Super" or &quo...

Well, I did it. 8) My top lip has seriously never been closer and it feels awesome. :D It is like there is NO hair there! My jaw bone line, pretty rough, but good. :) My chin is a different story! Think I went over it too many times! LOL It is ok, just doesn't feel as good as the rest of my ...

We, I'm about to embark upon a dangerous journey thanks to my mail I received today. I'm a simple man now, using simple tools I've been told to use my entire life. Heck, I barely use aftershave. Just some lotion that doesn't seem to bother my face. I shave in the shower, quickly and much of a chore....

Re: A Pleasant Surprise

A couple nights ago my wife came to me and asked if I'd lather up her legs with one of my brushes and Tabac, then shave them with my Gillette Tech. That was a shocker for me, but I was glad to oblige. The shave went very well...she was quite pleased with the experience....I was quite pleased with t...

Just thanks and an Intro

Gentlemen! I just wanted to say thanks to the warm welcome I've received here. I made a post in the University section and and overwhelmed by the welcome I've had. I can't say thanks enough to Whistler and Squire. You can read up if you want to, but thanks to them, hopefully I'll be shaving my first...

BTW, the sig of the chariot reminds me of happy childhood (yes, children were routinely corrupted in those days) visits to the Imperial War Museum in Lambeth. Chris It is actually called a Siluro a Lenta Corsa (lit. slow running torpedo) or SLC. An Italian war instrument for frogmen. It came to be ...

Welcome aboard, mfer. There's already been an abundance of suggestions from those wiser than I. My short list recommendation is to avoid "fleabay", you're liable to get fleeced. Look here in the B/S/T (buy, sell, trade) forum for a Gillette Superspeed or Tech. Don't spend over $20 max for y...

So, I'm looking on eBay for some vintage Gillette's. I think I like the idea of the tech because I just like the screw better. What should I expect to pay for these? I see some "buy it now" for 30 and 40 dollars but I see many other auctions not being bid on for 10. I see the ball end on t...

Okay, here's my standard suggestion, and it has been for years on these shave boards. I guess you're going with a Merkur DE razor? That's fine, but they are overly aggressive for the newcomer, IMO. If you can be swayed, I'd suggest a vintage Gillette Tech or Superspeed. It should be easy enough to ...

mfer - This is soooo easy. Just get whatever razor you want, slip a Derby Extrsa blade in it, Grab up a tub of Tabac and you'll be set up for life. Tabac huh? Pretty popular stuff then... http://westcoastshaving.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=9&products_id=187 There are "De...

Mik, Easy does it. You're moving into a whole new world of shaving here. One infinately richer and more varied than what's become the standard chain drug store trip. There are a LOT of potential products, and a lot to learn. The more time you can spend browsing in our archives ( ie. in the past thr...
