Okay, I've been shaving with my Merkur 23C for a few weeks now and I must say that it's not as hard as I thought it would be. I definitely enjoy shaving more. Don't know if it's because this way of shaving is better or because I take more time shaving. I indeed like the shaving cream much better th...

The Wee Scott certainly has it's supporters who all say that it produces ample lather for three passes. I don't doubt that, but it doesn't change the fact that the handle is minute. Too small for me, I fear. I may pick one up at some point for giggles but it's waaaaay down at the bottom of a somewh...

The Slants for me followed closely by the Progress. I've never tried the Futur but am looking around and hope to find a good deal on one soon! :D

After 6 years of collecting I have sold off all my soft, longer lofted brushes, including some very nice finest silvertips, in favor of the 50mm or less loft length scrubbier brushes I have come to prefer. I esp love the more prickly face latherers...usually with creams but the occasional soap as we...

i'll revize this to say that a (1) setting is about equal to my old progress at 3.5-4! Setting 1 is what I usually shave with on my Progress XL too. I have tried it at higher settings with no problems but I get a great shave at the lowest setting. Out of curiosity I just tried it at 5+ setting for ...

I have not tried a slant either. Now I am curious. I take it Merkur is the only maker of slant razors?? Merkur is the only current maker of Slants that I know but you can find vintage Hoffritz(Merkur), Fasan, Ziglar, and probably a few other brands I'm not aware of. There is also a double or supers...

Re: The one razor I keep coming back to!

I find myself reaching for one particular razor time and time again. This razor is the Ever Ready flip top pictured below. http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/2980/everready1hb.jpg If you can see the picture on the instructional pamphlet, you will note that the shaving angle is different from most S...

The SE razors are surprisingly smooth, but of about 30 DE and SE razors my favorites are the Slants....they just shave so comfortably that I just tend to keep reaching for them. Next in line would be the Progress.

I love the L'Occitane aftershave balm...it's one of my favorites, esp during the winter. The only one I've tried is Cade and it smells nice...I like it and my wife likes it. I'm almost out so I'll be interested to try the one that turns out the be the most popular here.

I get exactly 7 shaves from one. Five or six is probably optimal, but 7 are necessary for my OCD, so I can change the blade on the same day weekly. I find that a Feather on Day 7 is not as smooth as Day 1 or 2, but is smoother than any blade on Day 1 that I occasionally load to remind myself why I ...

Apparently, shaving scenes with Admiral Adama occurred with alarming frequency as the following article from 2008 points out...note that mantic59 posted in the comment section. http://www.battlestarcafe.com/adama-has-razor-will-shave/ http://www.battlestarcafe.com/wp-content/uploads/adama-shave.jpg

I have the Sledgehammer Slant, the standard Slant and the nearly identical vintage Hoffritz Slant, and recently sold off a vintage Merkur Slant with the slim handle and never could tell them apart while shaving. None was noticeably more aggressive than the other in any way. I'd love to try out one o...

I've primarily used Feathers for about 5 years or so and I change them out about once a week, no problem. My beard is only of average density, however...I'm no "grizzly" by any means. Like any blade from any of my sampler packs, Feathers lose their edge quickly, but to me a brand new Merku...

There have been several heated discussions about the correct way to load a blade in the slant razor. Most people say you simply put in the blade and tighten the head, that the razor should be built to work correctly that way. The method you described above seems to be an exact version of the "...

Well, I had a very nice shave this morning, my first with a Slant. Went with a new Gillette Platinum (Swede). Understanding that it would tend toward the more aggressive razors, I took care to treat it just as any other razor, and to apply no pressure. Took time to concentrate and do what comes nat...

All good advice and guidance. However, you're not required to have a big long laundry list of gizmos and this and that and the other thing. Your first question about which razor to get is probably the beginning of your own personal journey. I'd say, get the razor that appeals most to you. You'll ce...
