Bump!

Looks like my gilette isn't worth a Murker, the horror!

Okay, how about I throw in a Wing Sung 237 in red celluloid. If this your first FP, I'll throw in 1/3 of a bottle of Waterman Havana Brown to go with it.

My sister is a massage therapist. She has been studying EOs for use in massage. She gave me a few to try in my aftershave.

Menthol is found in the entire mint family.

Basically, unless the mint is synthetic, it conatins menthol.

Menthol and camphor are both topical anesthetics, and safe to use on irritated skin.

I guess that you don't use Proraso then ;) My hair is very stiff, I have no problem getting it to stand up. The lubrication provided by the jojoba oil more than makes up for any negative impact of the White Flower. Remember, I am using a few drops in 2oz of jojoba. ps, camphor is the promary ingredi...

Yeah. Don't use too much. I dilute it with lots of jojoba oil.

My sis got it for me at Wild Oats, it is with the rest of the body care products.

You might want to test the flavoring against your skin first.

EO's used for massage are generally safe topically, but AFAIK, extracts are not tested for that use.

I wash my face lightly in the shower before shaving to remove sweat, dirt, etc. I use Dr. Bonner's liquid Castile soap, which is mild and moisturizing.

I do not scrub. Ever. Shaving provides more than enough exfoliation.

Re: Gillette / Wilkinson duopoly?

AFAIK a few very small niche players are discounted when examining the market structure. The wet shaving market is indeed, as you have pointed out, a duopoly. The combined market share of all others is small indeed. You are forgetting about disposables. American Safety Razor and Bic are the two maj...

Bic and persona both produce disposables which compete with Gillette and Shick's "systems". A number of electrics are also available. While not quite the same thing, these electrics compete in the same market as the razors. Gillette and Schick are more visable because of their extensive ad...

Market price is based upon what the consumer is willing to pay, rather than what the product costs to manufacture. They are related in that a company will not sell a product that will not make a profit. This principle governs DE and str8 equipment as well. Consider high end cream. Do the production ...

I am drifting away from aftershave alltogether. When I first started shaving I used what my dad used: Old Spice. Man did that stuff sting! After a few years I started using cold water because it seemes to help more than the aftershave, and cost a hell of a lot less. A few months ago a tried Nivea se...

I see the shavette as a stepping stone on my way to a straight. The initial cost is fairly high, and the extra maintanence could be a burden.

Basically, I want a way to try it out with minimum investment.

Sorry to hijack this thread. I started a new one in general on this topic.

DOVO shavette?

What is your opinion.

I am thinking of trying it out as a cheap and easy intro to str8 shaving.

What do you guys think?

Do you use the long or short blades? Can you break regular blades, or do you have to use special blades?

Most importantly, how does it shave?

I want to try a str8 as well, but it seems like a huge time commitment for a shave.

has anyone tried a dovo shavette? how does it compare to the real thing? Long blades or short?
