You want sharp smooth blades. Connaught Shaving tucked a pack of Gillette Yellows in with mine and they work great; I also took it as a suggestion. I suspect any blade from St. Pete will be good in it and that's been the case for me (it just so happens Gillette Yellows are a top blade for me). Med ...

thanks Ian, yes it seems this is a razor that needs its own blades! Perhaps Muhle is working on that?

blade choices for Muhle R41

Seems this razor is particular about the blade it's given and whilst my technique is adjusting to it I've noticed blades do feel different (most terrible) to how they feel in my EJ8L. Best blade so far I've used in the R41 is the humble Derby; a blade I dont rate much at all in the 89L. In the 40 ho...

top quality stuff

with shampoos like these I'll never go back to department store muck.

great value too, lasts a long time as its a paste and you only need a small amount per wash. I only use the conditioner once a week as I tonic my hair daily. Want to try the lemon version next.

I'm half way through a stick of arko gifted to me from a fellow De shaver. Like the OP I consider Tabac 'Gold'. I hate the scent of arko but it's an above average performer all things considered. For similar pennies a Palmolive stick is better IMO with a better scent. Moving on I'm about to start on...

I have the Astra SS, made in the Czech Rep, now apparently all production is in the St Petersburg plant.

Until I get some SP's I won't know which is better for me but I'd say from the few SS's I've used till now you should definitely trial some.

the Permasharps in the cardboard box of 5 blades easily available from Best34 on ebay is in my view very similar to the SI, sourced from the same factory in Russia. Hard to spot the difference actually, shave wise, I have both and they perform equally well in my EJ89L which loves sharp blades. Note ...

Bullgoose has it in stock. thanks Kav. Normally i order from the UK vendors as the shipping cost to Australia is slightly better and the time is usually less also. (This is due to US vs UK postal services not the vendors) You guys in the northern hemisphere have more options at lower cost, we're a ...

ideal for the westpac office in a suit :)

I'm using Tuscany almost daily for work & sometimes the weekend. Partly cause I only own a few colognes at the moment, been busy getting my shaving life sorted out 1st, but also because when I was younger it's the fragrance my GF's seemed to like (released in the mid-80's I recall). Women still ...

valobra soap

What's the feedback on these bath soaps? Connaught shaving is now stocking them so I ordered one on an impulse with my last order, should get it something next week. Been using shower gels/creams for a few years now but Australia lacks really good soap options so more necessity that preference. If n...

You can get it at a reasonable price on ebay.

I'm enjoying these blades more and more. I've almost completed my 1st box of 10 and consider that for a budget blade it gives 5 days of shaves for me that are smooth and irritation free. Even the 5th day is acceptable, but it won't last as long as an SI for me. I hope the next box is as good as this...

The more I look at that description, the more I think it might be trying too hard to be all things, to all people. They sure have crammed a lot in there!
During a thunderstorm you can sometimes, but not often, smell ozone as lightning creates it.

cool, 1 of those should work! Personally I don't rate the Derby much with the 89L, but most regard it as a good starters blade.

Well, I decided on boring. I purchased 3 DE89L's. If they live up to their reputation for quality and performance, I'd say I got a good deal at $28 / razor. Did you order any blades with these? I can recommend Astra SS or Super Iridiums with this razor, both are great combinations. Your family are ...

it can be a bit fiddly, better not to load the razor when you just get up at 6am or so, better to load the night before.

I firmly hold the head, safety bar and blade in-between from the edges then screw the barber pole into that assembly.

Pashana cologne - anything like their shampoo?

I recently purchased the shampoo and it's scent is amazing and long lasting. If the cologne or aftershave is anything like it I will get it so I'm wondering if 1 of the Gents here have either or both and can comment?

SI's are my reference blade, if another brand gets close to it in performance for lower cost then it wins a spot in the rotation. I say gets 'close' as I've yet to find one that exceeds its performance. Astra SS is close but not as smooth. The SI is smooth, very sharp and long lasting in my EJ89L, j...
