Jody, Well, I knew that 'Atra' was an acrenem, and what it stood for, but not that it was orginally applied to that 'Contra' model that you are showcasing. A very interesting tale. So, I'm wondering if the one that you have was orginally sold in Australia?....or perhaps came from an old Gillette em...

The mystery has been solved, my friends! At around the same time, 1967-1970, Gillette UK was working on both the "Contra" and the "Rex" projects (the "Rex" project was the combined result of a stacked-blade project and another project called "Emperor" which it...

Just a quick update... I've finally talked to someone with Proctor & Gamble's archives (for those that don't know, P&G owns Gillette since 2005) and they are now on the case of this mysterious Gillette Contra. He's getting up with a lady who handles the Gillette end of history and archives a...

Ever since Energizer (owner of Schick and Wilkinson-Sword) bought American Safety Razor (owner of GEM and Personna) last year in a bankruptcy sale, they have worked towards making Personna a mostly industry-targeted blade supply business. Their new web site reflects this in that it targets industria...

http://i.imgur.com/WxNRC.jpg Since I took 45 pictures of this razor, to document it well since it's previously unknown to shavers and collectors alike, I'll just post a link to it in my razor gallery on my personal web site. Just too many photos to post here. http://www.renaldo.us/razorgal/thumbnai...

Even with Pauldog's description and some marks :D I must be a visual learner because I can't imagine what it means when they say the edges are facing each other. I'm one of those guys that need lots of drawings or pictures. Here's a picture I took today of the head with the blade injected. I bright...

It arrived today in the mail. I was hoping to find a date code on the razor, case, blade dispenser... somewhere. But nothing. No markings at all, anywhere, except for the white X on the blade dispenser. The blade edges do indeed face each other which is very unique and an interesting concept. I'll p...

Apparently not good since they never released it?

I won't be trying it out since it definitely seems the blades and everything are too rare. Most likely I'll never find Contra blades again.

I've never seen it before, and I don't remember seeing a patent document for it, or seeing it in Phil Krumholz's Gillette guide. It has a prototype or test market look to it, and I would guess that it's pretty rare and valuable. I'll search for a patent document. They filed for a trademark on "...

*MYSTERY SOLVED!* Previously unknown Gillette injector?

Hi all. I snagged this on eBay and wanted to see if anyone here has any info... This is the Gillette Contra. And it is an injector. There is literally no information I can find on the internet anywhere and none of the more "hardcore" collectors I know have a clue and have ever seen or hear...

I had to look again at the date of this thread because you said he's new to the business. He's been replating for a couple of years that I know of. And was one of the first replaters ever recommended to me at another forum. He does excellent work and pays attention to detail. I personally use Reliab...

The 1949 "Executive" has sold on eBay today with bidding ending at $545.00 plus $21.10 in shipping costs (actual priority, insured with signature delivery confirmation costs).

The others are still available.

Get them cheaper here through SMF before they hit eBay! :D

Hi all. I really need to move these as I'm done with collecting and would really like to see these go to people who can appreciate them. To that end, I'm drastically lowering the prices as follows: The 1949 "Executive" from $650 to $500. The 1958 "red dot Fat Boy" from $650 to $5...

Not for sure but if I were able to bet money on it, I'd say it's a Mulcuto made DE from the 1930s, made in Solingen, Germany by Mulcuto Werk. The handle definitely screams Mulcuto and they did have a head like that.

*SOLD* FS: 1970s NOS Personna Floating Head injector

SOLD - Hi all. I'm offering a 1970s Personna Floating Head injector. New Old Stock - never opened, never used. I bought this on an impulse but have decided I don't need another razor and can't bring myself to open it and use it. I won't call this a super rare razor but they are quite uncommon. As y...
