Shavemac - fan vs. flat vs. bulb

I'm seriously considering configuring a new Shavemac in two-band. I'm a big two-band fan and my sole Shavemac (the SMF II brush) is still a favorite. I'm torn between the three knot shapes. My SMF II brush is the only one I have in bulb shape. Most of my brushes are fan shape, so I'm leaning against...

Options for replacing a handle

My Simpson Tulip 2 took a nasty fall that caused a serious crack down the handle. I used some glue on it last night, but I think I'm going to need to replace the handle. That T2 knot is a great knot and I want to save it at all costs. What are my options here? Ideally I'd like to send this to somebo...

I was in London last year and came across a Truefitt and Hill branded Rooney Finest at the Truefitt and Hill store. I had no intention of buying another Finest (I sold my other one and regretted that decision), but when I saw it I had to have it. I'm so glad I picked that one up. It was the only one...

I just read that Rooney stopped making their Finest line, so I'm now really happy I spotted this one.

All within a short distance of each other: Taylors of Bond Street Trumpers Truefitt and Hill DR Harris Jermyn Street/St James area. And Fortnum and Mason also close by. All worth a visit even if you don't buy anything. I just got back from England. I visited all of the shops recommended above. Fort...

Visiting London. Where should I shop for brushes?

My wife and I are going to London for a few days next week. While I'm there I'd like to look at a few brushes. Does anybody have a shop they recommend? I'm interested mainly in Simpson, Rooney and Kent. I have owned several Simpsons and Rooneys and I've loved some and hated others (shedders). I'd re...

That had better not be the culprit. That is the best soap I've ever tried. I might have to put up with roaches if that's the case. :)

My shaving gear is attracting roaches <blech>

I have a drawer in my bathroom that holds all of my shaving soaps. On four occasions I've opened this drawer to find a cockroach sitting on top of my shaving soaps (mostly sealed shaving sticks). We don't have a roach problem and these are the only roaches I've seen in the house, so there must be so...

Tabac stick is my first choice for travel. My other sticks are Saint Charles Shave sticks. All are very good.

I don't use a scuttle at home, so I don't worry about keeping my brush warm on the road either.

Shave Sticks - Saint Charles Shave

I have recently become a huge fan of shave sticks. They are great for travel and they allow me to have many more varieties in my drawer without taking up as much real estate as traditional pucks. They're terribly easy to use too. I emailed Sue at SaintCharlesShave to ask about ordering scents that s...

TSA takes away my shaving soap

I was in Mexico on my way back to the states when the Mexican version of TSA searches my bag and removes my QED soap. The agent said (in broken English) that it was not allowed. When I asked why he said no liquids, gels, or creams and it was a cream. I unscrewed it and tapped on the soap and said &q...

The balm is the best AS I've tried. As goose mentioned you shouldn't use a lot. It leaves my face very smooth. Great stuff.

Never used the splash.

Just an update for the Tulip 2. It has relaxed a bit, but it's still the firmest brush I own. I consider it to be my ideal brush and I use it almost every day. I've even abandoned my Major in favor of bringing the T2 on the road. I've had four Simpson brushes and this is the only one that hasn't bee...

Tony, Thanks for the feedback. As I'm trying to avoid scritchy/prickly bristles, your comments are helpful. Any experience with the Heritage line? Nope, no experience with that line, but it does look nice. I haven't tried every maker out there, but I think it's hard to go wrong with Rooney if you w...

It sounds like you want to stray pretty far from the stiff line of brushes. I've used several Simpson brushes (Chubby, Tulip, Major) and none were terribly soft. Great brushes, but they were more firm than anything. The Rooney's I've used (Finest, Super) were both really soft with my Super being the...
