Re: What's for supper?

The recipe I use fills a wide mouth pint canning jar to the very top. Mayo made with vinegar doesn't spoil (despite what the "lawyers" write along with their recipes), so I don't mind making a pint. When I bought it I'd buy a qt. at a time with no problems. FWIW, mayo will attract and capture bacter...

Re: What's for supper?

Never even considered that, but it's in the memory banks now. Thanks! But I'm trying to do it w/o adding more yolks since that would cut down on my consumption (not that it's high). It sux being on as strict a diet as I have myself on. Everything is much more difficult and small successes are major ...

Re: frozen dessert

Gary, like it or hate it, either one, let me know how you like it.

Made blueberry sorbet yesterday with our home picked berries from off of our bushes. Same recipe. Delicious. It's amazing how much a pound of berries shrinks down when turned into sorbet.

Re: What's for supper?

Chris I had a problem with my homemade mayo having the right consistency, not thick enough, and not tasting eggy enough. Then I discovered dehydrated egg powder. Now I need to find some egg white powder to goose the eggy taste a bit more.

Re: pots and pans

Matfer Bourgeot (sp?) also has "black steel" pans and they are top rated by ATK, they are priced really good as well. I've been using them for a few years now after CI and I'll never go back to CI.

Re: What's for supper?

Today I was on a cooking tear. The other day I put 3 roasts in the sous vide bath. The goal was "roast" beef that I can eat since RB from the deli is too high in sodium. Previously I had made Italian flavored RB, this time just gran' garlic and b' pepper went in the bags with the beef. After trimmin...

Re: What's for supper?

:D I think I hate you Gary. I haven't had a ribeye since close to forever. In fact I have to pay someone back and he requested a rib roast for himself and 2 other folks. I doubt that I'll be able to eat any of it. But a deal is a deal and that's what he wanted.

frozen dessert

I don't allow myself much sat' fat on my new diet (my blood tests are great and I don't intend for that to change). While I love ice cream it's definitely a no-no. But just saying "NO!", isn't going to work for long. It's like pizza, some things are just non-negotiable over the long term (I allow my...

Well, I'd be the last person to call myself an expert, but here goes anyway...

Face lather for at least 3 minutes. Or you could shave much sooner after the shower.

Re: Gillette Scores an own goal

Murray, I'll try to explain why it's so insulting to many of us. It's because it portrays all men as stereotypical a-holes. It portrays behavior that most men abhor, but it blames each and every one of us. Then it shows 2 children rough housing on the lawn, both are laughing, and one of the men brea...

Re: My Quest for working car traction mats may finally be over

Pauldog, you can certainly use those tires year round, but I have no experience with them in that role. But some things that might make a difference is that they will be noisier than a summer tire, and your gas mileage will also suffer a bit. Yes, tire changeover is a PITA but we always notice the d...
