Re: Return to Simplicity

@ churchilllafemme - Here is an idea for your 80th birthday. Because DEs are forbidden as carry-ons, I recently became curious about the newly-launched "Gilette3" (not Mach3) cartridge shaver. When used with a fresh cartridge, they give as good a shave as a DE (for me, anyway). I was also surprised ...

We were in Halifax a few years ago on Canada Day. They kept the giant party going until July 4th when they celebrated USA Independence Day. Our hosts told us Canadians will use any excuse for a party. Way To Go, Canada!

Re: Truefitt & Hill Creams

I wish they had a truly unscented product. T&H Ultimate Comfort touts itself as unscented, but it's not so. The ingredients even specify lavender.

Re: "That Lather"

What about D R Harris? Their soaps still have tallow. I have used DRH and it seems to me their soaps are superior performers. For the old-timers, how does the current DRH compare to the days of yore?

Re: Razor Cleaning Guide

A new method -- thought it may be of interest to forum readers. Those living in areas with soft water may not be familiar with a kitchen product called Finish . It is a blue liquid sold at the grocery store, Costco, Target, etc and is intended to put into your dishwasher to remove soap scum and spot...

Re: What's the best shaving soap UNSCENTED?

Hi Gary -- I have a freebie for you. I have two pucks of the old tallow formulation of AOS soap. My wife does not like it, and I think it is because the tallow must emit some kind of a fragrance that she doesn't like. She is hyper-sensitive. However, with 50 years of marriage behind us, and given he...

Re: Dishwashing Machine Trick

Our water is extremely hard here. You could mine it with a pick and shovel. We use FINISH brand liquid. In the dishwasher, pou it in the dishwasher's rinse-aid compartment, and a couple tablespoons lasts our household of 2 people about a month. Bonus tip - we use it in the shower, one part finish an...

Re: Favorite hotel

So many wonderful hotels. Let me call out one US and one international. The Monteleone Hotel in New Orleans is probably the most hospitable hotel I have ever stayed in. The staff at all levels speaks of it as being "my hotel" as if they owned it. Serious southern hospitality. The revolving Carousel ...

Current AOS Unscented -- any good?

HI guys -

I have a need for unscented soap because of my wife's COPD. Because I really like Art Of Shaving unscented cream, I am wondering about their soap (current non-tallow formula). Does anyone use it? How difficult is it to lather? What about the performance? I would love to hear your opinions.

Re: Some thoughts about razors and blades

Basil - I would be curious to know your prep routine. I understand the idea that prep is important, but it seems to me that a lot of what I read (regarding prep) is just too fussy, too fastidious, and wastes too much time. So what is your prep routine, and how long does it take?

Re: AOS Eucalyptus Cream?

As posted above, I sent an email to AOS Customer Service. They did reply, saying that it was a legitimate AOS product but available only in certain AOS Stores. They asked for my contact info so they could refer me to the closes store that carries their Eucalyptus cream. I will update this when I hea...

Re: AOS Eucalyptus Cream?

Because of Rick's comment, I did a little more work. I can find it on the website of Nieman Marcus and of Dillards. Amazon seems not to carry it, but does make references to other online sellers who do. Since the employees at my local AOS store seem normally clueless, I wrote to AOS Customer Service...

AOS Eucalyptus Cream?

Hi guys -

I've heard that Art of Shaving has a eucalyptus cream, but can't find it.

Can anyone confirm whether it exists, and how to get it?

Thanks

Re: Review - The Art of Shaving

Gee - I think your store is out of line. I did check the TAOS official webstore just now, and unscented cream is $25 while the scented varieties are $30. In all cases, significantly less than the $40 in the picture shown in the original post. Yes, TAOS is expensive but their creams are top shelf and...

What about using reportedly super slick glycerin soaps like Imperial Barber and Kell's (neither of which I have tried). Would that have results similar to slippery creams?

Re: First pair of boots

Allen Edmonds makes quality boots in several styles, although pricey. Check out their factory seconds at www.shoebank.com My philosophy is that after you have had a pair of shoes or boots for a while, there will probably be some scuffs or irregularities anyway, so why not save up front? AE offers fr...
